Sure, but it feels like ever since then, there’s been a disdain towards comedic reviews of all kinds just because he’s tainted the whole genre. And… just speaking as someone who runs his own review channel, I find it very difficult to make reviews without any kind of comedy in them, because I don’t trust my abilities as a reviewer and also I’m just a jokey type of guy IRL, so I’d hate to have to make myself something I’m not.

The existence of Doug Walker damaging the reputation of comedic reviews is a mixed bag, IMO. Like, I don’t think everything has to be serious analysis without jokes or whatever. Comedic review/riff videos should be allowed to exist as well. Doug’s videos are just not good.

I getcha. I’ve started expanding my tastes to music made in the 2000s and 2010s beyond the few artists from those decades that I already know I like, so I’ve started listening to MGMT and Silversun Pickups and Porter Robinson and other artists from that era. But that doesn’t mean that my love of ’70s-’80s music is diminished.

Upon a quick Wikipedia glance, that was the drummer, Graeme Edge, who wrote and narrated the opening poem.

There’s an album I’m trying to remember, I don’t remember what it was called, but it was like a psychedelic album from the ’60s and ’70s that starts with a low synth(?) hum that gradually starts rising in pitch, while a British narrator is reading a monologue or poetry, similarly speaking quietly at first but then increasing in intensity to a loud shout that devolves into deranged laughter as the guitar and drums kick in. Does anyone know what this is?

Sure, but it was Mark Knopfler playing a character, and exposing the inherent bigotry behind a lot of the same people who claim that music isn’t a “real job.” (One of the other verses has a racist line, yet stunningly that never gets censored on the radio.)

Like I don’t think that Mark himself is a bigot or a guy who thinks that music “ain’t workin’,” given that he’s, y’know, a musician.
