the description for the 4k tag makes it rather specific, only using one specific resolution, which is ignored for roughly 1/4 of the pics tagged with it. should it just alias to high res instead of currently implying it?

There’s a whole mess of human on kirin tags on >>1819025 (NSFW, obviously). “Human”, “human male”, “mare”, “kirin” all going every which way. Some of these tags may be technically accurate but limited in utility b/c they’re only on 20 images while others are less precise but are useful for curating watch/hide lists due to being used 4k+ times.

I’d bet the “human on pony action” and “pony on human” are both legacies from when ponies were pretty much the only species worth posting about. Perhaps they should be broken into “dominant species” for the species before the “on” and “receptive species” for the receptive partner, but that seems like a lot of work.

It’s significant in the sense that it’s a common screen and video size, like 4k (which itself had some questions asked that I don’t remember getting answered) and to a lesser extent 8k and 5k.

However, because the site has for a while supported searching by image dimensions, pixel count, and aspect ratio, it’s redundant - though potentially a useful shortcut for people less search-syntax-savvy or for quick inclusion in watchlists or filters. In other words, I find it unnecessary but I could understand how other people might want it.

[edit] It is completely redundant with 1080p - even though technically that only depends on vertical pixel count, nobody ever uses it to mean anything other than 1920x1080.

I proposed a feature suggestion about a year ago to automatically handle basic image data as tags - tags like absurd file size, png, gif, 16:9, etc.

Obviously I have no say in the matter, but I don’t see why anyone would need a 4K upscale of such an undetailed (show-accurate) image. I’d say delete the new one.

Ah, I assumed it was the artist signature. It’s extremely confusing when tags have meaningful pairs without knowing the context.

Hello, but is the 4k tag used only on images with a resolution of 3840x2160? Or a resolution of 4096x2160 counts too? Also, does a vertical image still count as 4k (2160x3840 or, if correct, 2160x4096)?

7200x3150 would be too far from 4k but not yet 8k.
As Rainboom Dash said, the absurd res tag would be best indicator.

exactly… doing that would be stupid… the 4k tag is for stuff that is scaled to 4k.. I’m saying 4096 x 2160 works because it’s ‘professional’ 4k while 3840 x 2160 is the standard… 1920 x 808 would work for “1080p” ultra wide screens etc. etc.

the tags aren’t really necessary, actually… because I could just look up “high res”, “background” for a 4k desktop background

I would hope that the “4K” tag can be applied to anything 2,160 pixels or taller. For example, if someone made art that was 7200x3150 pixels big.

I’m assuming yes… it’d be like 1920 x 1200 or 2560 x 1600.. it’s just different aspect ratio

you know what nvm… it was a stupid question to ask
but might want to change that short description..

I just uploaded >>1756405 @ 3464x27054 and that’s quite a bit bigger than 4000x4000. Is there a tag for even bigger pictures than absurd res? Or is this a case of “If someone filters 4k+ images, they also want to filter bigger stuff”?

In related news (to that picture): constellation freckles are amazing. Please remember to tag them when you see them.

That’s already happening, the two tags imply each other. Problem is:

Sometimes people remove only one of the two tags.
Some of the tags implying Vinyl Scratch are missing the DJ Pon-3 implication and break the implication chain. filly vinyl scratch (implies dj-pon3 instead), record scrape, vinylcorn

Also, I just checked.
dj pon-3, -vinyl scratch gives only 9 results.
vinyl scratch, -dj pon-3 gives only 75 results, most of those are >5 years old and probably from before the implications.
Doesn’t seem to be that big of a problem. It looks more like something is up with the displayed tag counts, because that definitely is not the 4k difference you get when comparing both tags’ counts.
