Cobalt is momentarily startled by the sudden movement, but maintains his ‘grip’ on the page. “Come on now, no funny business yet; we’re almost there, just a bit longer…” he mutters to himself.

AISRA’s reaction is a combination of surprise and relief, as the little figurine smiles while rubbing the back of her head with her foreleg. It would seem she hadn’t expected that to actually work, and is rather pleased with herself for still being of service in spite of only a partial match.

I rub her head. “A partial or close match is good. I’ll tell you a secret: sometimes I don’t get all my information straight…been doing better about it though. Think you could find me a book on bettering my memory?”

She perks up and disappears, reappearing repeatedly with a small growing stack of books. They appear to all be guides and aids for assisting wizards in memorizing spells…

@Luke1066
Cobalt quickly encloses the page in a force bubble before darting off deeper into the basement at the bottom of the stairs. After a bit of stumbling he comes up to a locked display case containing a single large, worn black book. Which appears to be moving slightly, as if breathing, but that may simply be a trick of the unsteady light source. “Come on, come on…” he says as he begins unlocking the magical seals on the case…

She seems saddened by that. She had done her best, but that was all she could find.

@Luke1066
Cobalt finally manages to open the case as his gaze darts between the page he holds and the ominous book. Reacting quickly, he sweeps the book aside as it lands- well, splats- on the ground beside it. As he does so, he quickly places the volatile page in the case and slams it shut, reinforcement and sealing spells kicking in as he also puts a forcefield around the entire case for good measure.

I rub her head. “Hey, cheer up! You did pretty good. Never know, maybe there’s something in one of these that might help. Could you bring me some books about magical builds, magical creations?”

Cobalt staggers backward from the force of the barely-contained explosion, shielding his face from any light or shattered fragments with his arms. “Oof… wow, now I’m not sure whether or not just feeding it to the book would have been a better idea…” he says while magically lifting the aforementioned black book off the ground- apparently out of a small puddle of a clear, sticky substance.

@Steve61594
She again goes and fetches a pile of books on constructs, effigies, golems, and a few guides on enchantments. She looks up at him as if waiting nervously for approval.

“Oh!” he quickly lunges to catch her, or at the very least get close enough that he could lift her with his magic, just before she finally hits the ground. In the process, he drops the book on the ground again, and even Star can see it slowly open itself, as if it were alive.

Most of it seems pretty high-level to one not deeply versed in magic, but from what he can make out most magical constructs can only be made to simulate emotional responses without using some external intelligence like a bound elemental or soul; it is not yet fully understood how to make a thinking, feeling intelligent item from scratch.

And yet, there seems to be genuine nervousness and worry in the pleading eyes of the figurine looking up at him past the edge of the book…

“Ow. So, pain still hurts, so i’m still alive.” A similar crystal had formed around her horn, and from the slight denting and trickle of blood running from the base of her horn, the falling down the stairs bit was another bid to shatter the crystal.

She prances with glee at his approval, or at least as much as the figurine’s inability to leave her pedestal allows. Emotions or no, it would appear she is still aware of her original purpose and cares very much about how well she can serve her clients doing her original duties.

@Luke1066
“Oh geez, that looks bad.” Cobalt leans in to inspect the crystal, though hesitant to touch or approach it too closely “How did this happen? I didn’t get any of this stuff on me and I was closer to the explosion…”

Unbeknownst to him, the strange book has now opened fully, and an orb of black mist has begun forming between pages of glowing red runes, flowing in small wisps toward the crystal formation where it was once held.

By the time he turns to see what’s happening, tendrils of black mist have already begun engulfing the crystal-encrusted pedestal. “Um… given the circumstances I think it’s best that we let it finish first. Also, don’t look directly at it- it hates that.” he says while turning her around to face away from the book.

@Steve61594
With a smile, she repeatedly disappears and reappears as one-by-one the books vanish, most of which returned to shelves in other rooms but he does see at least one replaced on the shelf before him by the trio of tiny pony projections. Soon the pile is gone completely and AISRA stands proudly back on her pedestal, looking very pleased with herself.

Cobalt raised a barrier to protect from the blast, which instead was sucked into the dark hole formed in the book. When it finally closed itself, nothing remained of the crystal or the display case that once stood there.

“…Right. At least replacing that case shouldn’t be too hard, just as long as nobody disturbs the book too much in the meantime.”

@Steve61594
She happily accepts the attention and head rubs. She certainly doesn’t feel radioactive, but then again what exactly would magic radiation feel like? At the very least nothing tingles when he pets her.
