Cleaning up the Power Ponies' character tags

So this has been bugging me for a while, but in regards to the characters for the Power Ponies, the tags really need to be cleaned up (as well as the header image changed) as trying to follow the tag results in also getting the mane 6 under it as well.
 
So I was thinking maybe something like costume tags or something could work in order to allow people to follow the tags without having to try and mess around with the complex filters just view the characters themselves.
 
Something like Humdrum (Costume) or something to that effect would probably solve the issue.

If I read that right, you mean are you’re trying to differentiate the actual power pony characters, vs mane 6/others as them?

Note: Twilerina is an example to compare against Masked Matterhorn (as the character) doing non-power pony things.

I could have sworn there was a specific tag for the real ones. Can’t remember it though.

I don’t really think there was one for them, outside of Humdrum.

I do like the idea of putting [power pony name] costume along with the normal character name and the tag of the power pony they’re dressed as.
 
We could also do tags specific to the IDW characters: Zapp (IDW), Fili-Second (IDW), Humdrum (IDW), etc. These would all imply the normal version of their name tag (non-parenthetical).
 
Both types of images would get the [x] costume tags if they’re wearing them.
 
Searches of Zapp would turn up both the dash and IDW versions, while searches of Zapp (IDW) would turn up only the idw version.

Hmmm… Would that mean that Zapp has 2 character tags? Their name, and their name (idw)?  
Having to search specifically for name(idw) feels a little backwards to me. Since other characters have their name take precedence.
 
But just having their regular name tags be only for the actual character, with a costume tag for both seems like it would inconvenience those who don’t care which version they get.
 
Ideally I’d prefer Zapp to just be for the actual character, and zapp costume for both versions. Though that’s largely personal nitpickyness with keeping things organized in a certain way. I’m not sure there would be a clean solution that keeps things easy for both.
 
And given how people are already used to tagging the names on both, yeah. I guess your proposal might be the best.

Yeah I would have suggested making the primary PP name tags be only for the IDW versions but i have a feeling the vast majority of posts will be for m6 versions and people will be using the regular name tags regardless of how we define them.

So, just bumping this to ask a question, but is has there been any update in regards to this?

You’d probably be better off doing it the other way, with “Zapp” just being the Rainbow Dash one and “Zapp (IDW” being the other. That leans the closest to the way things are and the majority of Zapp pictures are Rainbow Dash, so it’d give you guys the least amount of work policing tags :P

Sorry for bumping this old thread again, but I was a little curious if the clean up is going to happen eventually.

I can do the implications but someone else is gonna have to pick up the tag project. I’m kind of staying away from tags at the moment due to IRL stuff.
 
I was leaning towards character (idw) as the tags to split off to, does that sound good?

Bring this back up cause I think these should be dealt with.
 
I’m willing to do the fixing to tag changes with a direction, but I’d need confirmation on which route to take and/or someone to alias tags depending on the route chosen.
 
(And either way, humdrum (pony) should be aliased to something else, since “(pony)” was changed to “(character)”)

I agree in regards to the alias.
 
As for the direction, I was thinking the actual Power Ponies should get the x (IDW) (ie Radiance (IDW) tags while anyone wearing their costumes should get a x (costume) (ie Scootaloo wearing Humdrum’s costume would get the Humdrum (costume) tag).
