Drug Use and Work Safety

I’d like to raise the question of whether bongs and drug use should fall under the safe tag. The descriptions for safe and questionable both raise the issue of work safety, but describe only sexual scenarios. However, leaving aside the issue of who in the world is actually browsing Derpibooru at work, the safe tag is a defining characteristic of the default filter, which “should hide images that would exceed the show’s own rating”.
 
The TV Parental Guidelines (the system that gives FiM its TV-Y rating) concerns itself only with violence, language, and sex. They are completely silent regarding drug use. However, the MPAA movie rating system requires an absence of drug use in movies rating G or PG, implying that any such scene would bring a movie up to at least PG-13. I think that the two systems are alike enough in purpose that we can reasonably infer that, the wink-and-nod antics of Tree Hugger and such aside, on-screen drug use would imply a shift in the show’s rating.
 
In short, I think that drug-related tags should imply questionable.
 
However, even if the general suggestion is accepted, there is room for discussion and further aliasing regarding the details. For example, at the moment, marijuana → drugs and lsd → drugs, but neither implies drug use (which may be fair), and neither alcohol nor drug use implies anything. Whether an empty bong is sufficient to imply drug use is also debatable.
 
Whatever those finer details are determined to be, I think that in light of the show’s rating and the concept of work safety expressed in the tag descriptions, tags that fall within this domain do not belong in safe.

Let’s not forget that what is SFW is also safe for public transport, social gatherings, and any situations where privacy isn’t sufficiently guaranteed.

I actually swore that drugs was hidden on the default filter, it is not tho.

Same here, thought it was spoilered. OP’s got my vote.

How are illicit drugs viewed in the workplace? I wouldn’t mind uprating it to suggestive at least. Of course, suggestive, questionable, and explicit are for sexual content only. We have separate tags for violent content as well.
 
If there’s a tag for “drug use” already, just spoiler it or hide it. We could also create rating tags for drug use (one for use of pot, one or use of heavy illicit substances), or make “drug use” a rating tag.

Like LB said, it should be spoilered by default. If it isn’t, it should be.

I was also wondering why drugs wasn’t spoilered by the default filter ever since I was using my old account (please don’t say its name) on fall 2015.

I think the remaining questions I have are:
 
• Should bong (and any other smaller paraphernalia tags) imply drug use, drugs, or any other tag, or is the object alone sufficiently tame?  
• Should alcohol have any of those implications, or is alcohol sufficiently different? (cider should not imply alcohol)  
• LightningBolt thought drugs was hidden, and Nittany Discord mentioned spoilered. Which should be the case? Should drugs and drug use be treated differently?

I think that last point is more a case of two tags for the same thing. Check the difference in tag numbers. I didn’t even know we had a drug use tag, I thought that was covered by drugs.
 
The other two points: I’unno. First one seems reasonable. Second one might open up a lot more discussion.

questionable is a point on the sexual scale, used only for low-end sexual activity and hints at characters having genitals. See the headings on the Tag Help page. Not all drug use is sexual in nature, so -1 on the suggested implication from me.
 
Perhaps drug use and paraphernalia should imply something on the dark scale, since **harmful addiction and its consequences can be grimdark. However, **I would settle for an implication of semi-grimdark, because some drug use can be recreational, responsible, and legal while still having darker overtones.

I think it’s worth considering separate tags. That said, I don’t know that there’s really a lot of art that bothers to show drugs that aren’t at least posed for imminent use. (drugs is the larger tag by about 13:1)

That was conveyed early on and discussion has moved past the initial suggestion. There seems to be agreement that, implications aside, drugs shouldn’t be visible in the default filter. The remaining discussion concerns implementation details.
