Legit question: for the tags rose vs. ““rose (flower)[](/tags/rose+(flower)) , is there any images that exists that refers to rose NOT for the flower? A brief glance at it doesn’t seem so, but I could be wrong. If not, would it make more sense to combine them, and for that weird exception just use rose (something)?

It might exist out of pure mistake. I always call those things screenshots and I nearly tagged some pictures as screenshots here before finding out that people use the term screencap for the tags instead and sticking to using the screencap tag. Maybe some people just accidentally tag things as screenshot by pure habit.

It’s not about the speech/thought bubbles. It’s about the bubbles not containing any text, but only, well, pictograms.

I can’t believe it took me just now to realize that those kind of backgrounds are what the Spoiler Tags are based off of.
And I don’t think the abstract background tag is necessary for this. I don’t see people use background tags for screencaps. But you might want a second opinion if anything just to be sure.

maybe it should be aliased to meta? In it’s descrpiton there is:Screencaps of internet sites, like news articles, deviant art discussions, or *chan threads
I think it should be aliased to “uploader gets a warning not to do that again or they’ll get banned”. All of those things are pure crap when uploaded as images instead of being opened as forum topics, because they fundamentally do no not belong on the image pages with the actual art. This is an image booru, not a dumping ground for people who are aren’t clever enough to master the difficult concept of “going to a different website”.

I could mention that the practice started long before the forums existed, and to delete posts simply because there’s a better place for them now seems a little backwards to me.
I could mention how there’s language in Rule #3 of the site rules expressly to address how images related to the community at large are allowed.
I could also recognize that you’re just speaking your opinion, and leave you to it, so that’s what I’ll do.

Some are fine, like screencaps of what a show staffer says or of some Big Thing. But a lot of screencaps are just “I saw this comment on EqD I disagree with so I screenshot it and uploaded to derpi so we can mock this person from afar”.

Rule #3 needs updating; we have forums now, and garbage like screencaps of Equestria Daily headlines or whateverchan whateverposts need to go to there.

That’s news, from an actual primary source; I still don’t particularly care to see it piled in with the fan art, but it at least fits the spirit of the rules. A screencap of an EqD header isn’t “news”, it’s “a public statement that OP wants to arglebargle about something they saw somewhere else but for some reason can’t be arsed to go arglebargle about it where they saw it”.

I’m glad you pointed out the difference, and I’m pretty sure that when people post headlines/tweets as obvious bait, the mod team frowns upon their shenanigans. Things like show staff’s personal facebook photos, screencaps of ban messages (with the exception of one particularly hilarious meltdown), and so forth are generally scrubbed.
Sure, we might not be the ideal place to cap threads and archive news about the fandom, but we do keep that stuff around in image form because sometimes, it’s worth seeing what it looked like, too. It’s one of those things that makes this more than just an art site. Celestia only knows how ridiculous this place would be if we truly catered to only the finest of pony art.

I like looking up tweets made by the staff. So yeah, I kind of agree with you in that regard.

Very likely. I’ll see about the possibility of getting it added.
@WingbeatPony
The thing about bait is that it requires two participants: the baiter and the taker. If people report obvious bait, we do deal with it. The problem is that far too many people, who really should know better, take the bait instead of reporting and ignoring it, and keep responding to content that they really should have filtered a long time ago.
EDIT: A quick poke around the staff has reminded me that meta has a lot of actual art on it, so it won’t be going in any default filters for that reason. However, there are a couple of tags that users can filter to get rid of most of the content that has been mentioned in the last page, chief being

Hmm… the ‘suggestive’ tag can be very um… what’s the word I’m looking for.. based on… uh… well… basically, I just look at it as her modeling… but someone else might look at it as her using bedroom eyes on someone in a seductive way
Rainbooms4Ever
Yeah, nvm
Okay, what the heck… this isn’t suggestive either.. >>525207
lolz… wow
Welllll… on second look… hmm…. it depends on if she is looking at someone or not… hmm….
I don’t know anymore…

To me it just looks like she’s modeling or something… but I guess considering she doesn’t have any clothes on
But, as I said before, ‘suggestive’ is very subjective… which is why I don’t like the decision behind safe versus suggestive.. sigh
