It seems kinda split, but it seems like half the people are fine with an additional tag, half are not.

Given however, that this is case, shouldnt derpibooru lean towards the side of more information? Since part of the point of derpi is to allow people to see what they want to see, avoid what they dont want to see, and find what they need, and more tags work to facilitate this.
 
Regardless though, the current hippogriff tag description needs to be moved to classical hippogriff, and set up a implication such that classical hippogriff -> hippogriff. At the same time, hippogriff, -griffling should be tagged classical hippogriff. There will be a little bit of collateral with that, given the existance of both odd hippogriffs, and those that removed the tag griffling, but cleaning that up should be much easier.
 
Also for the new hippogriff tag description, perhaps something like:
 
A creature made up of a combination of a griffon and a horse. Most commonly depicted as either a classical hippogriff as on the show, or as a <Insert tag here> in many fanon works.

Fanon-style hippogriffs are, as far as I know, still currently tagged with griffling in lieu of an agreed-upon tag, which was why he mentioned using it at this moment to catch the classical style hippogriffs for tagging. Some people have removed it already, but he did acknowledge this.
 
Note that when he suggested the new tag description, he used <insert tag here>. Since it’s already been established that griffling is not going to be the agreed upon thing.

This, literally this Koonzy. Presently the tag griffling is attached to things, though it will be aliased to the agreed upon better name, whatever that happens to be. The mods cant search for a future tag that has yet to be aliased/applied.
 
Believe me, I like the suggested names better and will gladly use the one decided. I was just referring to the physical tag.

I’ll repeat my earlier sentiment-
 
We shouldn’t be treating this as if there’s already a tag in place and we need to ‘negotiate’ for its change. As far as I’m concerned there isn’t and there never should have been the griffling tag erroneously added to every hippogriff pic, and me and many others have already removed the tag from their pictures.
 
Honestly I say we remove all griffling tags first, then start this entire debate over from the start- as it originally should have been.  
So far it just sounds like you made such a large change and are now holding it over our heads. You’ve created this false dilemma by your own reckless behavior and now claim ‘It’s either we find a new tag or griffling is staying and I know you don’t want that’, when in reality it should have never existed in the first place. And until you can get a good enough platform to stand on for its (or something similar’s) creation, I think the subject should die and the tags removed.

I was just talking about getting a mod to add classical hippogriff to the ones that ought to be tagged classical hippogriff. Please please read what I said, rather than whatever motive you’re trying to attach to it.
 
The ONLY reason I mentioned the tag griffling at all there was because it was relevant for describing what I thought the best way to go about doing that was.
 
Hell as far as the tag goes, you can largely ignore it, because its pretty clear its not going to stand as is. You’re sort of acting like a mod cant just wave a wand and delete the tag, which they totally can do. But removing it and then later reapplying is more of a pain that aliasing, so whatever the decision happens to be I’m sure they’ll execute upon it being reached.

Quite honestly… There is a need to mentioning a new tag. A Hippogryph is something enitrely different from a Horse with gryphon claws.
 
What would you call a gryphon with batwings? Would that be a Thestral (Royal night guard) then?
