Quadrupedal characters that are not the five "pony" races - tag for bodyplan needed

“Feral” doesn’t work - it refers to (non-sophont) animals, furry definition be damned.  
“Pony” causes mod complaining that, say, zebras aren’t ponies.
 
Neither “quad” nor “quadruped” are currently used, while “quadrupedal” is used but too long for common use. Thus I suggest using “quadruped” for all four-legs-no-arms (four legs plus arms is “centaur”) bodyplan depictions, and “pony” specifically for earth ponies, unicorns, pegasi, alicorns, and bat ponies for purposes of searching/filtering.

Most it will cause is being undertagged for some time, and it is fixable with some time and pics that need it most (i.e. zebras, griphons, donkeys, et c) can be tagged with it much faster.

If I was to suggest a tag it would be to use “feral” for anything that’s non-anthro and non-humanized. “Feral” is a term understood in the furry community, even if it’s not correct per say. But really, could be anything really, only issue is retagging the dozens of thousands of images with that.

How is adding another tag is “completely overhauling”? it doesn’t mess with others and need to be added to majority of them if they contain just another tag, and those who do don’t need it so dire, so it won’t even be a big problem becuase in meantime “pony” will work just fine for these hundreds of thousands.

I don’t need to if y’all stop getting your panties in a twist and allow “pony” to be used for zebras too, since the only canon zebra’s only differences from ponies are stripes and the swirl in place of cutie mark.  
Also, there’s almost a million images which simultaneously have no tags for the five pony races and no “anthro”/“humanized”/“semi-anthro”.

Two issues with that: 1. diamond dogs; 2: people are going to confuse it with “show accurate” and similar, “quadruped” is more obvious from the tag itself.

Overhauling as in:  
-Adding the new tag to the hundreds of thousands of images.  
-Getting countless other users to accept the new tag and apply it.  
-Adding yet another tag to define species on top of the already 2 tags used to define ponies. [Pony, pony race]  
-Replacing a search of about 3-4 tags, [zebra, -anthro, -semi-anthro, -humanized] with a search of 2 tags, [quadruped, zebra]. Which, while technically an improvement, is a rather small one.
 
And all of this, in order to accommodate a tag that makes up only 0.6399155138759821% of the images on the website. [Zebra] Compared to a tag that makes up 25.03350739531203% of the images on the website. And is still only 1/3 of the way tagged properly. [Pony]

Is this one of those things where “anthro dragon” and “anthro zebra” etc. should be their own tags (implying anthro), and dragon, zebra, diamond dog, etc. are only used for the ‘feral’ version, but that’s too onerous a task and nobody wants to do it?

No, quite the opposite (“anthro X” tags are dumb IMO, especially since amount of irrelevant images in “anthro, X” search is going to be small compared to desired ones).

-Most of these hundreds of thousands pics, as you already noted, don’t have a dire need for it via “pony” tag, and these who do can be tagged, relatively, fast by people who care about it. And for others, simple search for “pony” will be enough to show them and they can have absence of it for quite some time. and additionally, nobody tells you to do that personally.  
-As far as my own experience concerned, people on derpi can be very roughly divided on those who care about tags, who will catch on eventually, and those who really don’t, especially more “meta” ones. So that would be an objection even to the most useful* tag, and I simply can’t see a problem here.  
-If you’re talking about aliasing and implying here, it can wait, imho. If I to talk just about myself, I am okay with it being just a regular tag for a long time, maybe even indefinitely. As far as my opinion concerned, I need just a collectively agreed on tag for pics with four legged folks here that could even be purely user sustained, and just a blessing from the mods, so it wouldn’t be purged after a few weeks.  
-Not just zebras, even. There’s also griphons, buffaloes, donkeys, yaks, changelings (another major one) and now also hypohgrifs.

That barhandar said, plus pony races (i.e. unicorn, pegasus, et c) are used on every pic that contain them even if it’s anthro, afaik.

I think there’s a reason there are only about a hundred images tagged as “feral,” despite what the furry fandom’s definition is (and if you look at the tag you’ll see that a number of images aren’t even using the tag this way).
 
That reason is that it’s generally understood that ponies, and other quadrupedal species, have four legs. It makes sense to tag things that differ from those expectations - anthro, humanized, bipedal, etc - but given how MANY species there are in MLP that are quadrupeds, there is nothing such a tag could add functionally that isn’t easier to accomplish by using existing tags either to narrow or exclude images from the search.

The reason the “feral” tag is used so few times is because someone went around nuking it a few months back. Look at the tag changes mate.

feral is a no; regardless of whatever significance it may have in the furry fandom, “feral” basically means “wild animal”, and is discordant as hell with the entire idea of almost all MLP characters.

We can always go with your suggestion, “fim-style”, but before we even choose a name we should consider: are we really doing this massive tagging adventure or no? I’m in the “no” camp really: the “pony” and “earth pony etc” tags are not done yet, doing a new overall for a tag that will probably be very rarely used (meaning it will have to be curated mostly by mods) don’t seem like the best idea.

The amount of “other” bodyplan tags is unknown to regular user. “X, pony” is equivalent to “X, abunchofunknowntags” - actually “X,!anthro,!semi-anthro,!human,!humanized,!species swap,!centaur” at the very least.

“Centaur” is specific for human arms (upper body) and horse legs (torso). Generic four legs plus arms is “taur”.

though “fim-style” i gotta say is not such a good idea for a tag. going in blind, i would assume that tag meant they were drawn accurate to the show, even for characters like captain tit tyrant here:
