For one, Snake Pony
mentions Naga
, which is aliased into Lamia
, and has been for quite some time. Furthermore, Snake Pony is a simple name for an original species, so you’d assume it’s a general tag for all kinds, right? Well, that couldn’t be farther from the truth. Neither tags implies the other, yet many Lamias are tagged as Snake Pony too, or instead of Lamia, yet the Snake Pony tag description seems to say that Lamias have their own separate tag, while looking at what isn’t a Lamia seems to be any other variation of Snake Pony hybrid. Those with and without legs.
So, something needs fixed here. Should Lamia be made wholly separate from Snake Pony? Should Snake Pony become a catch-all for types, and each type given a different tag that all imply Snake Pony? Does anyone even care about Snake Ponies that are not Lamias? (I do, a lot. I prefer them, in fact)
And for those not keeping track at home on what Snake Pony variations there are, here’s a visual rundown:

and Naga
are fairly common descriptions for the two-limbed and zero-limbed types respectively, but unless you want to make a tag like four legged snake pony
and alias it into tetrapodophis, no one will have any idea what it is or how to find it.snake pony
tag, and then a tag like limbs: *
that can have the number of limbs on them put after it? Finding/blocking specific snake ponies would be as easy as NOT ( snake pony AND limbs: none)
or snake pony AND limbs: two
.limbs: *
tags could be described as “For creatures where the number of limbs can be variable” to hopefully stop people applying it to every pony and EqG character.snake pony
and the limbs:
modifier instead of just a single species tag. limbs:
modifiers would basically just be makeshift species tags for snake ponies, but without implications. Might as well just use actual species tags with implications then.snake pony
as catch all and then having the three sub-tags imply it. For the three tags… naga
for that, even if it’s not 100% correct. We could also go Japanese folklore and use nure-onna (or nure-poni, I guess). lamia
, for pony upper body and snake lower body. snakony
.Hypnosis
/mind control
is a counter to that. They have been established and mutually exclusive for a long time, but yet people continue to tag such incorrectly. (Not that I don’t still find a few vagina/vulva tags to swap.)Help fund the $15 daily operational cost of Derpibooru - support us financially!
