People can learn. Descriptions, proper tagging, and examples can help a lot.

I can confirm that they help. I’ve accidentally mistagged things before only to correct them later on.

So that leaves:
 
snake pony — Catch-all tag for “snake + pony” hybrids. All other tags imply this.
 
snake pony (no legs) — Obvious in name, it almost doesn’t need a description. Implies naga  
naga — Implies snake pony (no legs)
 
snake pony (2 legs) — Implies lamia  
lamia — Implies snake pony (2 legs)
 
snake pony (4 legs) — Implies tetrapodophis  
tetrapodophis — Implies snake pony (4 legs)

You could use aliasing for the various special names, but that would ultimately make the clarified tags useless, since no one would ever find them.

So since no real consensus has been made, I’m gonna leave this topic open and not do anything with these tags for now. Maybe a better idea will be thought of in the future.

Given the Discord discussion on the topic I maintain the following suggestion similar to this post: @Damaged
 
A blanket "snake pony" or "serpentine" tag that applies to everything, including the few weird pictures that might not fit any of the categories below;
 
A generic set of tags for the common use cases such as "snake pony (no limbs)", "snake pony (two limbs)", "snake pony (four limbs)" regardless of design;
 
A set of aliases with the above categories for common naming conventions like "lamia", "naga".
 
Highly specific depictions like "Inkanyamba" can stay as separate tags.

Not really. Any progress today would probably have resulted in snek implying badger and mushroom.
