Because I’m not nearly conceited enough to think they care what I think, and I also know that this show is ultimately for kids so their are limits to how good the characterization is likely to be sadly. Writing down to kids in general I think is a bad habit that most mainstream media has, but it’s one that is largely enforced by people outside the writers room.

That said I’ve also written things as part of a collective group myself and know the hurdles that can creep into such a thing. I’ve had heated debates and what amount to bitch fights with other writers where we have differing views of a character or how things should occur. Honestly being part of a writing “team” or shared universe can be both incredibly rewarding and unfathomably frustrating at time.

And I suspect some of Pinkie’s problems might well stem from that second area.

@Diaz
Thanks for proving you’re completely incapable of understanding that people like different things and that’s okay. You like Pinkie, okay, good for you, I respect that opinion, but it’s just that an opinion. I have a different one, and I feel I’ve supported why I have it without attacking anything.

Seriously the insults aren’t needed here.

Keeping it classy eh friend? I expressed my views on a fiction character and why I don’t like her. I’ll admit I probably was being smug in my first post in feeling some vindication that other fans were coming around to my view on the matter, but I never insulted people that DO like her. I only tried to explain why I don’t.

But see here I’m going to lay down a fun fact that also sort of ties into why I dislike her: People have different tastes and views. What you find funny or fun, I might not, and you know what? That’s fine. We can like different things and still get along or even discuss why we might like different thing. Well, that, or we can just assume that everyone must like something and then attempt for force that view on them regardless of their opinions and shun them if they won’t agree.

How this ties into Pinkie is that I think Pinkie has her ideas about what happiness is and how to make it, but the problem is she has no damn sensitivity to anyone Else’s thoughts on the matter. She’s determined to enforce her method and convinced it’s best and so help you, she’s going to make you agree. Pinkie is IMO ironically rather selfish in some ways in that yes she wants to make people happy, but she wants to do it in her way and seems almost totally unable to consider or really try to understand that other people might have differing views.

She shows slight glimmers now and then that she might learn too, but it never sticks and overall she comes across to me anyway as quite insensitive and very narrow minded. She just doesn’t seem nearly as well rounded compared to the other characters who all have different aspects to their personality, but Pinkie is… always Pinkie. She doesn’t really seem to have depth or other facets to her character to me and just feels shallow and one note. The whole loud whacky clown act seems like all there is too her and having never been much of a fan of that brand of humor pretty much all her supposed ‘charm’ is lost on me.

Now I’ll freely admit to a bias here: classic ‘whacky’ humor has never done much of anything for me. I’m even going to go full heretic here and say that for instance that I never really watched Loony Tunes as a kid and don’t find them very interesting as an adult either. Boo-hiss! Plebeian! No sense of humor! Etc, etc. So she was already starting in a hole for me, but she hasn’t really done much to pull herself out of it for me. I also stand by the view that she’s probably the worst written and least interesting of the main cast even putting aside my feelings about her brand of humor.

I think the choice to pretty much define her as the “whacky” one did a disservice to her character and I think that as time goes on that’s becoming more evident as the lack of much substances beyond that one note becomes clear. Like I said Pinkie needs to grow the hell up, her characterization needs to evolve to learn some lessons about responsibility and helping others without just trying to force your ideas down their throats. I don’t see that happening though. I think she’s pretty much trapped in her rut within the show itself and will probably continue to be defined almost solely by her wackiness it’s entire run, and I don’t consider that nearly enough to make a character likeable or interesting.

If you like her, fine, good for you,but I don’t and don’t try to make it out like the only way I couldn’t is because I’m some humorless hater or such bullcrap and then start insulting me. People have different views on fiction, deal with it.

Ah, should have figured. Poor marshmallow gets all the hate.

But the whole pinata argument is still quite a stretch. That’s like calling Gandhi a jerk for accidentally spilling soup on somebody.

But even I’ll admit to her strange behavior in Filli. I’ve noticed it seems Pinkie almost has it out for Fluttershy on multiple occasions. Still not over the attack from New Fluttershy, maybe? Nope, I’m looking too much into it.

Either way, I still found her traumatizing of Fluttershy in Filli Vanilli hilarious and I don’t even have a least favorite of the mane 6.

A pinata which was ACCIDENTALLY dropped on her good friend, mind you. God forbid Pinkie not be a perfect little pony! I mean, I can admit she’s not perfect, too. But none of them are and that’s the point of the show.
Man, let’s face it, you’re really just scraping for reasons to make Pinkie out to be a villain or some insufferable bitch when the reality of the matter is you just seem to have some personal vendetta out for the pink equine.
I mean, if I didn’t know any better, I’d say there was someone in your life with a personality similar to Pinkie’s that had quite a negative impact on you in some way.

I’m just saying, there’s ‘not liking a character’ and then there’s an ‘unhealthy having-a-dart-board-with-his/her-face-on-it-on-my-wall obsessive hatred of a charater’.

Just take a step back, dude. The pink one’s not perfect. But she’s no demon spawn.

Yeah yeah the actual moral is more ‘I can share the spotlight with other people if my friends are having a good time’ or something. She still realizes this in the midst of dropping a three story tall pinata on her friend in a frenzy of over-party.

I fucking loved Pinkie Pride but even in that episode, when she’s not actively trying to throw a party, she’s irritating the fuck out of everyone. Look at all of her failed job attempts! The only reason she’s better there than in Filli Vanilli is because she has her key moment and realizes that she’s being obnoxious in her goofiness to the point where her friend is no longer enjoying herself.

@Diaz
No, I just don’t see the appeal of a shallow, annoying ditz. Creating a “whacky” character that’s not grating is IMO a deceptively difficult writing task. Pinkie does not pull it off in my view and comes off as mindless and obnoxious. I honestly have trouble even rationalizing why the other characters put up with her bullshit.

All the other main cast I can see why you might want to be friends with them. They have their faults, but they also have redeeming qualities that make them interesting or funny. Pinkie though is just that obnoxious guy that no one really likes, but whose too thickheaded to take the hint let alone alter his behavior. He has no filter and the only volume setting on his personality is ‘11’.

He might be occasionally amusing to watch from a distance, but only in the same manner as a clown or drunk, and he wears out his welcome equally fast if he linger. Honest if I ever actually encountered Pinkie my first instinct would be to smack her across the face and tell her to grow the fuck up.
