To be fair a lot of the initial anger was less about Nyx as Nyx and more about “SHE MADE TWILIGHT ACT SO OOC WHY WOULDN’T SHE TRUST HER TEACHER?!?!”  
It just kind of morphed over time when all the other terrible alicorn OCs started falling out of the woodwork, plus as a filly being slightly awkward and Twist-y.
 
Also Rarity was minorly OC as well because that vest was just hideous!
