Nobody says they can’t, just that implying Dash as a lesbian just because she’s a tomboy seems improper to the show and Faust thinks about certain stereotypes.

the show never teased or hinted her being gay until the very last episode which came out of nowhere, happened for no reason than for the sake of subverting our expectations, and goes against the creator’s vision for the characters. here is a quote from Faust herself:
“Rainbow Dash has rainbow-striped hair because of her name and because she is very interested in sports, specifically flying. She is a tomboy, but nowhere in the show is her sexual orientation ever referenced. As we all know, there are plenty of straight tomboys in the world, and assuming they are lesbians is extremely unfair to both straight and lesbian tomboys. There are lots of different ways to be a girl. You can be sweet and shy, or bold and physical. You can be silly and friendly, or reserved and studious. You can be strong and hard working, or artistic and beautiful… There is a diversity of personalities, ambitions, talents, strengths and even flaws in our characters.”
to say a boyish girl who likes rainbows must be gay or trans is extremely close-minded and ignorant. and the final episode is insulting for making her gay simply because of these stereotypes.
Karma
Which still does not actually say she is

Yeup! But for some reason, this didn’t stop John Haber from making a big hint about their possible relationship
and the show never said she’s a lesbian
She can’t be a lesbian because the lines in her mane are straight)
