So, I usually stick to European of Japanese monsters but a while back I was watching a special dissecting the zombie myth on the History channel and they mentioned the Jiang Shi. It’d heard it before when I used to watch Shaman King, and I was seriously interested in looking into it.
After consulting Wikipedia, it seems the creature is essentially a Chinese vampire/zombie creature. They seem to be created when the burial rites for a corpse are preformed improperly and the soul of the corpse is not at rest. Their limbs are stiff with Rigor mortis so they hold out their arms. They are dead and someone encountering one can avoid detection by holding their breath, which is the only way the Jiang Shi can find them. They drink qi (sp?) which I believe if the life force, of a person, and are typically seen in burial clothing of the previous century due to the fact that it takes awhile to become a Jiang Shi. They are usually a blue color due to the fact they are dead. The only way to stop a Jiang Shi is a talisman from a Tao spiritualist (among other things listed by wikipedia.) The kanji on the talisman on our little Jiang Shi’s head was kanji I kept seeing appear on various examples I saw for Jiang Shi. I an not too good with Kanji, and have absolutely no idea what it says in Chinese, so if I wrote something offensive like “F*** soup” or something, leave a comment so I can fix it. Also, comment is you have anything to add. I am basically going off wikipedia, for that paragraph I just wrote there.
Anyways, more to come. And if there’s a creature you’d like to see, commission me! :3

Another consequence of the rigor mortis-jiang shis cannot walk. They hop. Which will look really strange on a quadraped.
