Some seven odd years later, after much shipping fuel for Big Mac with countless other ponies, this seems right, at least with me.
 
Can’t wait for Season 8, “A Sweet Apple Acres Wedding 1 and 2”!

FlutterMac really only popped up because they both lacked a love interest early on in the show’s lifespan. Before the episode, “Hearts and Hooves Day” aired which kind of got the popular CheeriMac ship sailing, and then inevitably we met the Pie family and got our second Big Mac ship. But I don’t know how people could keep supporting FlutterMac, but to each their own.

How is she a Pinkie Pie knockoff?

It’s really hard to stay optimistic about this series now that Jim Miller’s gone Full Miller. First Glimmer steals the opener AGAIN, then Flurry Heart babysitting cliche, then AJ’s parents on-screen, likely in another Romeo and Juliet knockoff, then this? Big Mac, the character Miller keeps projecting on, getting a crush on this mediocre Pinkie Pie knockoff we know next to nothing about?
 
Why? Why does this episode exist? To try and start an artificial shipping war? Why bother fighting one? I already know Twidash and Macshy are the superior ships. Who cares if they’re part of Miller’s canon or not? If anything, being canon in his world would be an insult.

Might as well get my two cents in on this.
 
1: CherriMac wasn’t really a whole lot, just the CMC playing god.
 
2: MarbleMac had the biggest chance of working out since it almost happened, but I guess that ship got sunk before it became a year old.
 
3: FlutterMac never had a moment of being canon, live with it.

Fluttershy has a canon “Beauty and the Beast” thing going on, because the writers seem to enjoy pairing her up with big brutish males: the manticore from episode 2, Harry the Bear, Iron Will, Bulk Biceps, Discord. It would seem natural to add Big Mac to the list (and “Filli Vanilli” helped).
 
What makes the Fluttermac ship founder, though, is that Big Macintosh is actually a handsome fellow, unlike the ones previously mentioned. IMHO, Fluttershy seems to be attracted to males that most other females would shun; apparently they bring out her motherly instincts. Fluttermac would inevitably end up with Big Mac being friend-zoned.
