Well, the reason for Fluttermac is
 
1). They’re both shy.  
2). They’re both popular.
 
Basically, Big Macintosh is considered a “spear counterpoint” to Fluttershy, much like Soarin is to Rainbow Dash and Cheese Sandwich is to Pinkie Pie.
