I actually kind of wish this show had a villain that wasn’t so verbose and articulate. Stygian seemed like one that would be so consumed by hatred that he couldn’t even speak properly. He was a normal, upstanding pony that was hurt so much, so often, and for so long, that he lost himself to anger.
But nope, we had the typical “MUAH HAH HAH, FOOLISH PEASANTS” villain. Probably because the target audience can’t understand a villain of circumstance, like Arthur from Joker 2019.

I don’t even know who this is. I’ll have to watch that bit. There’s some episodes that I missed including an entire season around the middle of the series.
…oh right, Stygian was a thing at one point, and then he kinda evaporated rather than being a male counterpart to Twilight who could’ve been used to show off a male character in a positive light in a main character role for once
You my friend are absolutely correct, it was a shame that stygian was given the short end of the stick like that. MLP does have a habit of downplaying male characters, but I suppose the fan content can fix that problem, that and the idw comics which seem to care more about male characters than the show ever did.
Anyone else wish we got more of Stygian in later episodes. Like, maybe bring him on as a second guidance counselor at the School of Friendship or something?…..

Like… 5 seconds in the finale aside from the song? They really did the Pillars a disservice in the show, down to being reduced to idiot level Worfing in the last two parter. Least the comics do a much better job with them. Stygian is even the star of two arcs.
