Why are more people focusing on headcanoning the ages of the characters then the stupidity of the claim of sweetie belle being interested in spike?

I am surprised by how much math I have put into the whole thing, mostly because I am not too fond of math. But no matter how we see it. Rarity is NOT a teenager, but she is also not that old.

Sweetie has shown no show canon interest in Spike. In fact, they haven’t interacted in years. Also, Spike is mostly likely in between the mane six and cmc when it comes to age.

Here’s something more productive than arguing whose headcanon is accurate: realize that the writers are incapable of sticking to coherent world-building and will sacrifice any continuity if it makes for a good episode and isn’t too blatant.

^ 14 is too young; Rarity was in full adult form even if she had just crossed into it. 14 is more what Applejack looked like in Where the Apple Lies. I would say Rarity was about 18 at the very least in the flashback.

Probably not a good move. Celestia and Luna are both canonically older than 1000 (Celestia’s age > 1111), but EQG Celestia seems to be in her 30s.

I’m just saying that if you can hand wave away the show getting the continuity wrong then why not the comic? You bringing up minor/background characters in the comics to show how they don’t follow the continuity is the same the earlier seasons of the show.

When and where was I cherry picking to suit mah continuity I didn’t exclude a single character in my point please don’t put words in my mouth.
 
 
As I said before moondancers appearance and personality in the fall of sunset shimmer is very different from how it is in the show and Meghan has never appeared in the show before and the fall of sunset shimmer implied that she was a teenage freshmen at CHS and in her official appearance in rollercoaster of friendship we see that’s not the case.

Most, if not all, high schools kick students out when they turn 25.
 
Which is why Flutters would be 18-20 do to still being in high school.
 
Not to mention you’re basing your theory off of character models.

Sincerely I do not respect Big Jim enough to take his tweets into account. However it has been stated since the comics that their canonicity is valid only if it does not conflict the show. Therefore what conflicts the show is not canon.

In the past it has been stated ages are changed a bit in Equestria Girls, and as mentioned earlier, by the time Sweetie belle was 5, Rarity was still pretty much the same as now. Which means she had to be at least 14. Considering Sweetie Belle is much likely not younger than 10, Rarity would be at least 24 at the moment. Which means the odds are Apple Jack is 20-22, Rainbow Dash probably 21-23, Twilight Sparkle 20-23 and so on until we find out Fluttershy can not be younger than 25… Which means Fluttershy has a bright future ahead considering she has the looks of a supermodel at age 25, therefore will last like that for much longer.

The Show reused the same background pony models alot multiple characters would appear on screen at the same time or there voices would keep changing they were very lazy in the early seasons thankfully they don’t do that as much anymore and create new characters instead of using same ones
 
 
Also I can use background characters to accurately guess a timeline when they are linked to the main character.

Since Applejack was not as relevant to the calculation, this is true. In fact we could infer Rarity is younger or the same age as Pinkie Pie, but not younger than the other three… Which means Fluttershy is much likely 25-26…

Guys. Let me handle this. Comics are NOT canon. Sunset Shimmer is OLDER than Twilight Sparkle but not much older.
 
Celestia has several students, and her star students get classes from them. Not just Twilight. All the overachieving ones. Sunset Shimmer was probably a few years above twilight as a student.
 
Celestia also had several failed students including Moon Dancer, who dropped out partly due to Twilight failing her, Sunburst, who made a big rage quit due to burnout from her mother, Trixie, who apparently studied a generation under Twilight but couldn’t keep up the pace.
 
Celestia has been literally gathering the unicorns with potential for the sole purpose of training the best of the best personally with the intent of continuing Starswirl’s work, and Twilight’s coronation was the greatest result of her project.
 
From a real life standpoint she created a government funded genius trained program. In fact we see her school in the last season and it was large enough for several relevant unicorns to walk its halls without ever meeting each other. Not to mention that is also the episode where we found out Celestia has organized the power balance in Equestria in a way that keeps her and her sister under the law and not above it, with Chancellor Neighsay being his direct subordinate as a government official, but his superior in regards to the school system. Effectively allowing her to create a separate system from the one ruled by Neighsay for her student’s pet project, while at the same time being unable to simply scrap out Neighsay’s system completely.
 
Equestrian politics might be barely relevant to the show canon, but it is a fascinating topic. With that said, Sunset Shimmer is older, but not much older, and certainly not 40 years old.

That’s like asking me why is Spike a dog, or why are Celestia and Luna just adults instead of hundreds of years old. I’m not privy to the details of why or how characters are changed the way they are in the EQG Earth, I’m just stating that based on what we know about Sunset before she went through the portal to Equestria Girls World she was significantly older than Twilight. Maybe someone on twitter did confirm that she’s a teenager now, but it was also confirmed through a comic that as a pony she was older than Twilight.

But she isn’t a major character in this iteration, just a background character like Lyra and the rest commonly used to fill space, just like generation 1 Moondancer who even appears in the background of Sunset Shimmers comic, which is why I said you shouldn’t try to base timeline things on background ponies making cameos. That even occurs in the main series.

She isn’t just some random background character so I can use her as refecnce as for you’re point of

You do know twilight and Lyra are child hood friends right moon dancer also appears in the book and she looks and acts very differently from how she is in the show

To answer your question I’ll give you a question of my own: If she was older than Twilight and is in her 30’s or 40’s… Why do her pictures have her appear to be a preteen during her first year at CHS? More to the point, how does she look like, and is confirmed as, a teenager?
