There is no interaction between Spike and the CMC. Least of all Sweetiebelle and Spike. The ONLY substance anyone has as “proof” is the photo of Spike dancing with Sweetiebelle during Shining and Cadance’s wedding.
 
That said, he and Gabby were quite the item.

Likes him back? I didn’t remember any long interactions between Spike and children. Only when they dancing on royal wedding maybe.

I actually see Sweetie Belle as extroverted too. Consider that because of the CMC Sweetie Belle has to talk to all sorts of new people and get them to open up so she can help them. Also one of her dreams is to be up on stage singing. That alone takes a good amount of social confidence.
 
I would say the difference is Sweetie would be more forward than Spike. Spike can reel himself when he needs too, Sweetie Belle would push further to reach a goal or prove a point.
 
I like your headcanon though, it remind me of how La Magia De La Amistad approached these two.

Personally, I ship them because I think their personalities would come together nicely. Spike is more extroverted while Sweetie is more introverted. They’re both very sensitive and I could see them understanding and supporting each other. (Now this is headcanon but I could see Sweetie Belle helping Spike to not be such a doormat and Spike helping Sweetie Belle to be more responsible). They’re both around the same age. And even though they didn’t come into contact very much in the show, they were still close enough for it to be possible, with both having a relationship with Rarity. Anyways, I hope that kind of let you see my/our? perspective. Lol Hope you have a great day. :)

In my younger days, I was a competitive (amateur) ballroom dancer. I can honestly say that in the 4 years or so in which I had a regular dance partner the same age as me, I never had any romantic feelings towards her.

That’s a good assumption but the flaw is wouldn’t Smolder have mentioned or even hinted about Spike getting wings from the molt effect? Seems like a big thing to forget, flying for a dragon.
 
If the molt effect doesn’t give wings then we can’t say that all winged dragon are older than Spike. Don’t forget too that we don’t know if the molt effect happens at the same time for every dragon.

There is also the fat that ,since he’s been living with ponies and his diet consists of pony things, his growth ma be stunted. He’s also been called a runt by both Garble and Ember, so it’s quite possible that he is stunted in physical growth.
