Yeah, good point. But I haven’t ever heard Rarity say ‘bonjour’ in the show, and frankly I don’t even know if that word exists in the world of Equestria. So it seems a bit out of character for her.

Certain paper copies apparently do quite well in terms of sales, helping to keep bookstores like Barnes and Noble afloat throughout the years. So no, I really don’t think that paper books will ever truly die. After all, for many people there is a certain intrinsic value to owning something that is physical as opposed to something that is virtual. For certain titles that aren’t as common (such as special edition prints of books) the value would grow over time, and an owner might be able to resell it in the future. Such things can’t be done with digital books, since you never really ‘own’ them and therefore cannot legally resell them (that and if the server goes down or if the device that you’re reading the book on breaks, then you’re out of luck).

These days I’m more interested in writing stories than reading them, most of my reading today consists of nonfiction titles, I think ≥90% are computer and programming related (that like my game Library, I’m putting off reading because laziness).

There are definitely advantages and fans of paper copies over ebooks, so I doubt they’re ever going to truly die. I just like ebooks because they’re convienient, I can just bring on up and read it when I’m bored or I have to pretend to look busy.

I’ve never gotten into ebooks, myself. Makes me wonder about the future of regular books

Books are nice, I have a small bookshelf of manga I sadly no longer contribute to, but I have a sizable Kindle library.

The Bargain/Clearance shelf at the book store is my one weakness (when it comes to buying books). I know I spent 5x what I planned when setting foot in the store, but that’s the price I pay for buying a lot of books. It’s literally the price I pay for buying a lot of books.

That’s probably correct too, and it’s not just limited to Texas either, I’ve heard it used many places particularly the South and Midwest US. Heck I hear Australians say it. I suppose it’s an English thing.

I always thought it was just a Texan catchphrase use to both greet others as well as invoke their cultural identity. But I guess that etymology for the phrase is neat as well.

So I don’t know if it’s been mentioned at all in this thread (and I’m too lazy to sit through the history, sue me), but the etymology of “howdy” is kinda neat.

From what I can gather, the word originates in 16th century England, rooted as a contraction of the phrase used for inquiring on someone’s health, “Huet dest þou” meaning “how d’ye do?” or “how do ye?”, eventually shortened to “howdy”. I don’t know if “ye” in this context is pronounced [YEE] or [THEE], I am not certain but I wanna say the latter.

It eventually found its way over to the continental North America, either having already evolved or evolving into just the single word “howdy”.

English is complex but interesting regardless.

Sorry the late reply, I seriously underestimated how long it took to complete the cover art, but as promised, here’s the story. The first chapter of three is up, I plan on getting the second and perhaps third done this next week. A blog here explains some needed lore, it’s part of an anthology of sorts.
