Do we know for certain that she didn’t? I agree to an extent: it would be sad if she wanted to, but never found the special somepony. I assume they just didn’t have an obvious mate for Rarity, and couldn’t introduce one in the space of a few minutes; and didn’t want to ruin the dreams of shippers.

I think it’s a little sad too that rarity appears to have never married. Maybe she changed her mind over the years but I would have thought that it was still a dream of hers.

If anything, getting married is mocked and derided in media.
 
It’s a little sad for Rarity, who seemed interested in getting married, albeit in a childish, overly-romantic way. She never got over that to grasp a more realistic conception of marriage?

Absolutely. I tend not to like it when characters get married off for their happy ending, and I’m glad they haven’t paired up the Mane 6, lesbian or otherwise. Lyrabon is nice, Glimburst or Startrix would each be fine; but the mane cast don’t need husbands or wives to have lived fulfilling lives.

Even more so, the show shows that there are numerous different types of “platonic love” relationships by this point: hetero, homo, cross-species - you don’t have to be married, or you can. It is a bit of a sappy idea but its a good positive one for our society today, where people take issue with anything off the beaten “straight and married” relationship.
