Nostalgia alone is never a deciding factor. It is what causes a lean in, but it can also repel; nostalgia is based on wither or not it was good in the first place. And is that so wrong? Codename STEAM was very good and if a squeal is announced I will lean toward getting it considering the quality of the first, but that is not set in stone, a developer can’t do anything to it and people will still by it in the same quantity.

In today’s society sales and ratings are only preliminary in content we’ve already seen and we’re stuck in the loop of seeing the same shit over and over again and people have grown to be okay with that and thus Sonic still lives, when Sega should instead kill him and and his universe off completely and create something new. But that would be risky and it wouldn’t sell. Sonic will continue on sucking more and more as time passes because his icon is a cliché. But people will still buy it because they’re obsessed with getting their nostalgia fix, and thus the circle of crap continues.
 
Company makes scrap -> Fans buys their crap -> Company makes profit to make more crap -> repeat
 
Everyone’s so used to this by now, it’s a way of living for most people. In with old and out with the new.

And who does? We don’t need to push the desire for originality, that’s inherent trait of people, we both appreciate our comfort zone as well as desire something new.

Oh really? And “giving originality too much power” Ex: you have three similar stories that deal with the same subject matter but are all poorly made, is it wrong for someone to look at these an aspire to make a similar story, but of a higher quality?
 
Also let’s not forget that one of the reasons why Sonic is down the drain is because of too much variety in a sense (The opposite of what you said). Sega keeps giving him a widely different gameplay game after game after warehog after wisp after Mario Galaxy-esqe etc.  
Point being: nothing is refined, nothing is giving a second run to best (well become tolerable in Sonic’s case) itself.

And? I honestly think you two place to much power in “originality”. “Originality” as if that instantly equate to quality.  
Making a working car out of ice is an original idea, but does it equate to a good one? Using CPR isn’t original, but do we cast it aside?

I basically agree with everything you said here.  
I’ve seen some really good movies, that had no advertising, but just came out and were done so well with good actors and such, had amazing animation and a good moving story.
 
Then we have stars wars, or say the Hobbit, or the massively overused avengers, we have so many different hulks, different spidermans, ect.
 
No matter how bad they make those movies, people are going to go to the cinema to watch them.
 
Just right here, you look at the front page of Derpibooru, and you see original artwork, completely thought up by the artists mind, go almost unnoticed with no upvotes, sometimes even downvotes. To cheap lol’s from unoriginality as you said, a reapted meme(though you did do it really well^^) that people flock to and upvote.
 
I have a few background ponies myself that I love. (oh how I love seeing art of Lightning Bolt, such a cute Pegasus) But, more often then not goes completely unnoticed by people. Doesn’t matter that it’s original, it’s just cause it’s not popular.

Good for you, but the topic was about the public reception to originality in general media. I do not understand what draws people to deliberately derail this.

Images get mass approval because they’re both broadly appealing and well-executed. Some are more of one than the other (hi, loop of two gifs connected together on a featureless background) but if this was half-assed it wouldn’t have gotten the upvotes it did just because ‘lol gay’. (Hi, 80% of pretty much every exploitable meme on the site)

In that case you need the learn how to reference, the why you put it was as part of the reast of the stamen, not reference.  
Knowing how to state something helps people understand you, by simply fixing the punctuation you can change the whole meaning.
