I recall there were memes abound comparing the show and fandom to the Titanic back in 2012. Right down to 4chan pretending they don’t care.
 
The show hasn’t sunk, neither has the fandom and they’re all mad about how wrong they were about Faust leaving being the end of days.

The funny thing is, now some fans are upset that Glimmer, and Shimmer “replaced” Twilight in both series.

If you ask a certain subset of people, MLP has been ruined since the end of the second episode. Fame & Misfortune wasn’t joking about that, there are people out there who think Twilight would have been a more interesting character if she’d stayed in Canterlot. There’s also people who think it would have been a better show without Twilight.
 
This argument has been going on forever. And all it does every time someone says that the show is ruined and should be cancelled is start a fight.

Really? Weird Al said online somewhere he wouldn’t mind returning to the show again, but said it’s up to the writers to bring Cheese Sandwich back, not him. I guess there’s not much else they can do with him, but I’d love to see Al back again, even as a different character.
 
I saw the “Gravity Falls” episode with Al in it, and he’s actually a very good voice actor.

Yep many did, (I did! Big Al fan here sense childhood!) When Weird Al even hinted he might appear in the show, I remember fans went nuts with excitement.
 
Yet, some got upset feeling it was a “cheap ratings stunt guest-appearance,“and some even cited it as a sign of how “bad” the show got, comparing it to the Simpson’s reliance on guest-stars, (which is rather unfair, as MLP has had very few, even to this day) yet those same people were begging for more Discord/John DeLancie ironically.
 
Y’know, when William Shatner appeared a year ago, I didn’t even notice it was him, so that was a very clever subtle appearance.

To be honest, I thought it was worse in the Season 3 era, then Season 4.  
Though, yeah I know what you’re talking about. Honestly, I didn’t really dislike “Mare Do-Well,” I think some overreacted to it, as honestly I thought “Pony Point of View,” and such were more mean-spirited, yet I see no drama over that episode.
 
Some did try to demonize S4 for ridiculous things like having Weird Al guest star, (and he’s actually appeared in many cartoons in the past 2 decades, so it’s really not that unusual for him) or even things like Daring-Do being “real.” >>493265
 
Before Starlight was a “Mary-Su,” it was Twilight Sparkle, and Sunset Shimmer that were the ones/destroying the show.  
Some even tried to say Flurry Heart ruined the show, and how many times have we seen her?  
Heck, in Season 1, some thought the CMC were “ruining” the show, so it’s been going on sense the beginning, it just wasn’t as widespread back then. (Though, often, most dramas/controversies are from a minority of fans. They just seem like a majority, because the more casual fans don’t care about drama.)

That, and I can do you one better: Mysterious Mare-Do-Well. I can distinctly remember when that episode was marked by some as the harbinger of Doom for MLP and that they should’ve ended the show when Faust left. It’s also the reason I roll my eyes at “Starlight is a Ma-Rey Su!” arguments, as we went through all this shit and then some for the latter half of S3 and ALL of S4.

I will never understand this.  
If Starlight makes a mistake she is a horrible pony who ruins the show.  
If Starlight does something right she is an insufferable Mary Sue who ruins the show.

Remember back when people wanted the show to end, because Cadance & Shining Armor were introduced?
 
Also, why is it people get mad when a character makes a mistake, yet at the same time want them to be flawed/human, and such?
