I agree. Zecora not rhyming suddenly indicates that the situation is deeply personal and serious for her. How is that “out of character” when her character has never been in a situation like this. This is the first time Zecora’s homeland has been brought up and now its revealed she’s afraid of going back. Her friends pressure her into going despite that and at some point she snaps.
Its actually rather refreshing to see the usually wise and reserved Zecora suddenly snap. For a character that’s usually so zen, that tells us something is the matter.

Honestly, as somebody who’s seen TTG, I actually don’t think it’s like TTG, or “cut from the same mold.”
I don’t even think the art styles are exactly the same.

I don’t think IDW MLP:FIM is meant for solely an older audience. In fact, ironically I hear it’s more popular with kids then bronies.
The weird thing is that “Pony Life” is cut from the same mold as “Teen Titans Go”, but it’s here, and not in the Go-esque show, where the characters are douchebags to each other.

Or, perhaps, the idea that both AJ and Zecora let assumptions and emotions get the better of them and they both contributed to this playout of events.
As soon as I saw the thumbnail and the number of comments, I new it was going to trigger some feelings and lead to a bunch of whining. I wasn’t disappointed.😂
Regardless of how she feels about her hometown, her turning around and screaming in AJ’s face about it and invoking AJ’s dead mother to make her feel bad is definitely out of character. Getting annoyed and putting her hoof down? Sure. Outright exploding over it? Yeah, nah, why on Earth would she behave like that when AJ barely antagonised her?
