Apparently the next EqG thing is called “Guardians of the Everfreee”, no idea when it’ll show up to but I guess it’s safe to assume next year if it’s actually being turned into a movie like the other 3.

He can’t, however, because no effort was made in doing that. Twilight’s still drooling over him in the second movie, and he actually serves even less of a purpose there than he did in the first. That’s what the writers wanted him to be: the cool and popular, but bland love interest. That’s the sole point of his existence.
 
There’s no turning back from that, especially now that EQG is over.

Personally, I think characters’ existence as “devices” like in this scenario falls into a flaw in the plot of the story they’re in, not the character itself. They can, and should, be separated.

Considering it’s incredibly common for people to claim that “Flash is bland” is the reason they hate him, I have no choice but to take them for their word.
 
You name flaws you see with the movie, and with the setting. So, blame the plot and setting, not Flash; it’s not his fault he’s a high school student in a spinoff movie. If it was his fault the movie sucked, then sure, feel free to dislike him. However, it’s not his fault that the movie was meh, and the actual problems run deeper.

I’m gonna level with you, any hate I might have for him is just proxy from the one I have for Twi.
 
I’ve thought of plenty of other character interactions for him to have, it’s just that one in particular that sticks in my craw.

But no, he’s been repeatedly shoved into the foreground as a forced love interest: there’s no development, just instant clichéd Love at First Sight. That would be bad enough in the regular canon, but we’re talking EQG here: a concept that is loathed enough as it is, for taking interesting characters from an interesting fantasy setting and putting them in another, much less interesting high school setting with a cliché plot to boot.

Anyway. There is no point in carrying on with this conversation. You’re telling us to make the best of a shitty situation. You knew all the time that the character was bad but for some reason still yell at background ponies for hating him.

I don’t watch Steven Universe, so I don’t really know the details, but I wouldn’t like it.
 
HOWEVER, I wouldn’t like it because of PEARL being googlyeyed, not because of said bland person being googlyeyed at. First crushes often do not have all that much underpinning them other than looks and the first few impressions.
 
This is also a different situation because Twilight did NOT spend more than a few seconds at time goggling over him uselessly when she had more important things to do, and Flash did help her out.
 
And well, honestly, he has more traits than say, Octavia did in her only appearance before being snatched up by the fandom. All we knew from her first appearance is that she played classical-esque music, and was good enough at it to play at the Gala. In comparison, we know that Flash also likes music (of a different type), is somewhat clumsy, has a crush on Twilight, seems to be at least decently affluent, and is willing to go out of his way to help others.
