Regarding Twilight’s scientific acumen, here’s something I wrote to a friend about “The Crystal Empire”:
“I like to think that Twilight was using The Power of Science when she dropped a rock to the bottom of the stairs. She counted a rough estimate of the number of seconds it took to reach the bottom and calculated the depth of the stairwell. Twilight was shocked to discover that the rock covered a distance of 313 meters– a depth greater than the height of the Chrysler building (309 meters). She had a long walk ahead of her, which was wisely elided by the creators of the episode.”
(It falls for about eight seconds, I think, from 27:46 to 27:54 in a conjoined Ep. 1&2 YouTube video. I got the height of the Chrysler building wrong, though– it’s 320 meters.)
Drats, thought I was still logged in. Anyway.. wonder if the show will ever further explore her knowledge of science, as demonstrated in several episodes. So far It seems like they just put that in to add to the geek factor.
