Description

If you have negative opinions towards a specific character, you might as well just give up, because you’ll just cause annoyance, and nobody likes that, plus positive opinions will overshadow negative ones, always,

I mean, technically, neither do positive opinions. In the long run, nothing humans could ever say or do truly matters towards anything other than our own insignificant goals. We are nothing more than matter that somehow gained the ability to communicate the most basic of fundamental ideals, and assigned words with no true resonant meaning to other forms of matter that we manipulate into forming images that suit us. We pretend to be unique individuals when we prove by our own actions that we are little more than a malfunctioning hivemind driven with the illusion of self-awareness and free will.

In the long run, the true long run, negative opinions and positive opinions are no different from each other. They never mattered, and they never will. The only difference is the chemical responses that are activated in our body, and how our underdeveloped brains react to them.

@Ravemastaj
I disagree STRONGLY with literally everything you just said! But I don’t feel like getting into this argument again. Sorry I asked that stupid question in the first place..

By the time he was having the tea party episode with Fluttershy, and showing genuine concern about how comfortable she would be in his house, anyone could be safe saying that he was reformed.

Yeah, that was ONE time. Then Matter of Principals and Best Gift Ever happened. Argument invalid.

Discord isn’t reverting to them in the same way. His original intention was to control the world to fit his whims, without any care for how it affected others. He has largely given up on that idea (although at the time of the episode with the Plunder Seeds, I would say that you could argue he wasn’t reformed either). By the time he was having the tea party episode with Fluttershy, and showing genuine concern about how comfortable she would be in his house, anyone could be safe saying that he was reformed.

“You only provided 2 examples to make your point!”
I could hunt for more, like when she wanted to go backwards in time and be a filly with Sunburst again…without ever talking to him about the idea? Again, reverting to old behaviors like being in control, not discussing issues with people and just making decisions, etc. There’s not supposed to be a set limit like “You need 50 examples to prove she’s not a reformed communist!” They’re opinions based on what I’ve seen. The fact that these problems still occur indicate that she is not reformed - she’s working on it, but the problems are still there.

“Everyone looks at her shortcomings and act like that’s her entire character.”
They are her entire character. She’s a reformed villain in a cartoon. Her bad points are the only points she had at the start, ergo they define her character. Hell, Chrysalis is in the same boat, with even less development as of yet. Being defined by shortcomings is not a bad thing when you are afforded the opportunity to confront them and solve them. Starlight Glimmer is not yet at that point, but she’s on the right path. I’ll know she’s completely reformed when someone doesn’t want to be her friend, and she doesn’t force them to be one. I’d say that is going to be a problem for Twilight Sparkle in the future, too, as she becomes more defined by her actions as a Princess - the only difference between the two being that Sparkle is developing this problem, and Glimmer already has it.

@Ravemastaj
You say she’s not reformed and yet Discord exists. And you say she “she constantly reverts to previous behaviors” but you only used two examples. Literally every other instance is proves otherwise.

That opinion won’t go away because everyone only looks at her shortcomings and act like that’s her entire character.
Ravemastaj

@MegaAnimationFan
That could be the case for some people. My personal opinion of her is that she is not in fact reformed - she constantly reverts to previous behaviors that have benefited her in the past. Need to learn some friendship lessons? Mind control! Have a problem with your best friend? Solve the problem by yourself without consulting them at all, because you are the leader in charge around here!

She is being treated as a nice person, when at the end of the day, when you give her an actual problem…she’s a communist dictator at heart. This opinion won’t go away anytime soon, since it’s based on her introduction in Season 5 and her actions since then.

God I wish this were true

@LaszlVFX
But here’s the thing, no one (especially in a fandom) is ever moderate about it.

@Ravemastaj
Sometimes a character can be so divisive that negative feedback is the only thing that is remembered.

Like the unicorn that’s smacking the book right now?

Negative opinions are the motor of progress. Remember the USA was founded because a couple of people didn’t like the monarchy.
In short: negative opinions matter the most.
