why did the hell did I ask that? all I need to know is that Kid Rock’s Devil without a Cause was certified Diamond (actually, eleven times Platinum) by the RIAA. it sold a million copies more than Nirvana’s Nevermind!
then again, Sunset Shimmer, just like Devil without a Cause, caters to that same base appeal. hopefully you guys come to regret that–as I did–in the years to come.

I’ve not a fucking clue of what the hell you’re talking about there, nor do I care, but to answer your first questions.

if you don’t like the show, then why are still here? why did you even bother watching to the end? why be part of something you lost interest in years ago?

I never said I don’t like the show, and you should quit putting words into people’s mouths like that. I only said I’m not invested in it enough like to write fanfiction about it, and there’s an obvious difference between “invested enough to watch it” and “invested enough to write fanfiction about it”, especially when you take into account “fix fic” stuff, where you’re more often than not writing about something you strongly dislike, and oh boy I’m so not interested in doing that…

So quit jumping to conclusions, or are you gonna tell me you honestly believe that “Not liking Starlight” equals “Not liking the show”, mh? Because that’s about as much of a breach of logic as the one you seem to have jumped into just now.

So where are you even getting this “[waste a lot of time on Starlight,] they did” crap? I’m detecting a little bit of bias here.
Call it what it is- a blatantly false statement.

If you want to simply agree to disagree, that’s fine by me. I don’t intend to extend this overdone conversation much longer either. From your viewpoint, I’m insufferable to talk to. From my point of view, your hard to talk to. We have very different mindsets, and that’s a reality I’m willing to accept. Agree to disagree?

“Okay, but this isn’t an objective claim. It’s a subjective one.”

Of course that’s subjective. Your claims have been subjective as well. You have been replying to me based on what YOU perceive, regardless of whether your tastes match others.

If something subjective is mirrored by a statistically large group of people in some shape or form, there’s usually a reason why this assessment exists.

But the fact remains that a divisive character that does what Starlight does in terms of public opinion is not something that should be praised. You call it ‘overhated’ because you SUBJECTIVELY disagree with other people’s claims. Neither of our opinions matter in the long run unless they are mirrored by many others. But one also has to keep in mind that a character this divisive is usually not the intention of people who want fans to like all the reoccurring characters in the show. Ergo, the hate the character receives is due to the failure of the writers, not the fans.

“I like well written characters, not badly written ones. If that’s being biased, I’m biased. And by the upvotes on this page, there are plenty of ’biased’ people to go around.”

There are quite a few really bad examples of this in the comments sections, most notably SilverStar.

“Starlight Glimmer is one of the few characters that has been consistently badly written, at least to a degree noticeably different then the rest of the reoccurring cast. She got a little better during Season 9, but not that much.”

If you think about, desire for quality is the original bias, so of course I’m biased. We ALL are, its simply our viewpoints that are different.

Let me put it in another way. If this was a far worse show with a LOT of badly written reoccurring characters, I would give them all grief for undeserved praise narratively. But the thing is, most of the reoccurring characters in MLP are very likable and well written. Its part of the reason the series got so popular. Rainbow Dash episodes are sometimes pretty bad and Twilight Sparkle is in character development purgatory for many seasons, but overall their still well written. Starlight Glimmer is one of the few characters that has been consistently badly written, at least to a degree noticeably different then the rest of the reoccurring cast. She got a little better during Season 9, but not that much.
