Cosmos is wearing the face of one of her many previous lives (Cadence), so as to ease her daughter into her new complete form.
Emotions are a tricky thing, Cosmos found. Especially when you in your previous lives have been both the mother and the Aunt to the little baby that she now cuddled in her arms.
As the god empress of the species that feed on love and emotions she could sense the love that emanated from the foal. It was more then just a mother love that passed between them. It there was also the love she had felt when she was an aunt. And probably the love as a niece and a Godmother, depending on how related she had been as Luna and Celestia. No matter. Cosmos desided that all of her previous pony lives had been related to one another in some way or another. That just made the conection between her and the child even stronger.
and strong, the love that came from the child was. for she did not love her merely as a mother. She loved her as all the other things. And was it not just as it should be. That She’d be loved even more as a god empress then as a mere pony?
All these memories played at the forefront of Cosmos mind, as she hugged her daugher/niece/godchild close and embraced her with the comfort of four different alicorns. How she had all wanted to hug the little flurry in her arms when she were separate ponies. Well now, when she was one, she could.
Meanwhile: Discord and Flutter-equus are keeping a close eye on Cosmos’s antics. And Discord is really happy that she is giving attention to something other than him for once in a millisecond.
Discord: “You’d know - I’d happily let her stay as all of the princesses and other creatures if it means she stays away from me!”

Non-grimdark? really? I thought that made it WORSE, since what Cosmos did was erase all their individuality from existence and replace it with only herself.
She can only become MORE whole.
Ah, okay. That could theoretically make most of your images non-grimdark then… ain’t that interesting. ;p That being said, Discord and Fluttershy should probably be very worried now that she isn’t going to ‘protect’ Discord–means he’s up for assimilation!
All forms of Cosmos are whole, but some are more whole than others?
Cosmos would say there is only one consciousnesses. - Cosmos. Though she has all the memories of everyone she’s absorbed, she thinks about them like her own previous lives. Like they were all parts of cosmos just waiting to become whole. And given how powerful she is – she would most likely have distorted reality to where that is the truth now.
She would argue that there are no parts, there are no miltiplie minds or multiple souls. There is only one whole Cosmos.
No Flurry is going to absorb her.
