“you fit in to whats currently liked”
I have never done that, I dress how I like, not how others like. I understand fashion as a concept and won’t tell anyone to change what they like, but I do disagree with the whole “follow what everyone else is doing” trend thing. I stand out because I dress differently to everyone else but that’s not the reason I do it, I’m not a trendsetter.

Isn’t defining yourself based on everyone else the core of fashion? You dress (or design clothes) that other people will judge to be good looking, you fit in to what’s currently liked.
Part of it is obviously just about good looking designs, ones that are eternally relevant. But another big part of fashion seems to be the social aspect: to show that you are “in vogue”, socially up-to-date, that kind of stuff. That necessitates following trends - or being a trendsetter, if you’re influential enough. Rarity is certianly shown to be the latter on many occasions, and just a designer of good clothing (according to the first definition) in many other cases.

I hate this concept, trends are dumb. If you define yourself based on everyone else then what’s the point, you might as well not even have a definition if it’s just a copy of everyone else
