This really was kinda messed up. Not because of the punishment entirely, but because that’s everything they did with them. Why have that moment in “Frenemies” when they would of just have done this with them? The finale made them seem more sadistic for the sake of making the heroes look better. Really dirty treatment they got.

Amen, my pon. Amen. The harsh nature of the punishment, the fact it was decided by he who shall not be named, and the fact it happened… so quickly, really calls a lot into question. I’m absolutely with you, this ending makes me sick and ruined the spirit of the show for me.

It really just feels like the writers did what was easiest and most convenient. They clearly just ran out of time, (plus with it being the end of the series), they just concluded their arc in the quickest and dirtiest way, and leave no loose ends or doubt to their fate. It’s a shame it came to this. I don’t even necessarily would rather have a rushed redemption arc, just remove this scene (have the villains run away instead idc), and the series finale is fine. (Still not great, just fine.)

That cupcake sure does delicious though…

I personally disagree. Petrification in this universe is not inherently a horrible punishment, and even seems less bad than a jail sentence for the same duration (at least in Tartarus, the only “serious” pony jail we’ve seen). While Discord was conscious during his petrification, he’s special, and other petrification does not include being able to sense or remember anything, so it seems to be more like a “timeout” than anything else (at least, if they don’t have any emotional attachments they’d leave behind like these three). I’d personally rather be in stone for 1000 years than in Tartarus for that long, assuming I’m immortal.

Discord said it was forever, but Twilight is in charge of them now, and I don’t think it’s unreasonable to think that she (the Princess of Friendship) would have a different opinion, and so I think it’s entirely reasonable to believe she’d free them at some point. If you think it’s forever, it’s basically a death sentence, but I don’t think that’s very likely with Twilight in charge.

I don’t think it was handled perfectly (if they were planning on not having them be redeemed, they shouldn’t have had that moment at the end of Frenemies, but I don’t think it’s too bad even though I see where some people feel robbed after that scene.

I really hated this part. It was too harsh a punishment, harsher than anything else we’ve seen on this show. It made the princesses come across as really sadistic. Instead of justice, it felt more like they were taking revenge for what the three had done earlier, because revenge is perfectly fine when the good guys do it.🤨. The worst part is that the one who started all of this got to choose their punishment, inflict it on them, and suffer no blowback himself.

I don’t know what the point they were trying to make here was. The writing made it seem like they were going to discover friendship by working together. They were really funny together, and people enjoyed their episodes. Then the finale comes along and they suddenly make them irredeemable. I was, and remain, greatly bewildered by this conclusion. It actually ruined the show for me. I still haven’t seen the very last episode. Even seeing pictures of their statue makes my stomach turn.

Sorry, this turned into an essay.

Chrysalis’ expression is hard to make out there…surprised or angry. I’m leaning towards angry, as they already heard the Princesses talking and knew some kind of punishment was coming.
