Exactly! They’re special because they’re not extraordinary. They don’t have to be.
Earth ponies have always been special. They are the ones that provide food for the entire Equestria so other races wouldn’t starve, and their super strength is awesome. I don’t get why people are always like “Earth ponies suck cause they don’t get magic!” when they’re the ones keeping the world alive.

They can obviously only grow tiny flowers because that kind of power was not fully realized yet, and maybe it only happens to Applejack. Who knows?

We see them supernaturally growing plants a few times in G4, like in Castle Sweet Castle.
