The (completely swagalicious) uniform seems to be based on an Imperial Russian grenadier one, with a bit less red. There are probably Napoleonic Wars geeks out there who can identify which unit based on the feather duster alone or something, even steampunked.

or maybe she was reloading her musket, in which case the bayonet is pointing up, and the changling was too close to use a stab, clubing upwards is a good option

ever been hit by a 3 stone musket butt before? besides years before bayonets were invented musketeers just used the butts like clubs which by the way could overcome plate armor, the only reason the bayonet was invented was to further protect musketeers from cavalry and to phase out pikemen, who untill then protected musketeers, even with bayonets soldiers prefered to use a good old club than a spear that gets stuck, also if someone gets inside your range of attack past the bayonet club is a handy option.

perhaps she’s thinking taht that bayonette is kinda difficult to stab at something that’s within the reach of her polearm-like weapon, so she’s smashing her enemy with the heavy part that’s closer to it so taht it’ll back away enough for her to kill it? that changeling had to have been rather close to her for those angles to work: so close that that bayonette and the gun couldn’t be used correctly, so she essentially backhanded her foe away with the only part of her weapon she could use without adjusting her grip while it gnawed on her leg.

To much anime thinking. Swinging a gun around like a staff makes you ridiculously vulnerable.
 
Fact is all the deadly stuff is pointing in the wrong direction when it doesn’t have to be. A sharpshooter weapon like that takes to long to re-shoulder compared to pulling the bayonet out out of a corpse. Finally being beaten isn’t like in the movies where people stay down after one hit, a bayonet is a dead changeling, the back of a gun is a vulnerable soldier to that changeling and all the others around her.
 
If she is on a battlefield swinging her rifle as a club not such a hot idea it just looks cool for pictures.

by the way Rose is dressed, she appears to be a ranked officer, you’d be hard pressed to get that rifle from her while she’s beating you with the butt of it, before stabbing you with the bayonet
 
Marines are still taught on how to fight with their weapon, with or without bullets in it, its close quarters combat training (cause sometimes ya can’t get a shot off)
