Deeper and deeper sank the guard into the sleek, strong alicorn. Luna’s throat took over her tongue’s job of keeping the guard’s struggles under control while her mysterious mane continued overpowering the poor pegasus’s jaws, keeping him from getting any cries for help out.

There was nothing the doomed guard could do but raise his final free leg in protest as more and more of him vanished impossibly, armor and all, into the princess’s beautiful body.

FWIW: “Elder” Twilight and Celestia have “stars” in their manes, too.

It’s simpler than that. No alternate-universe or alternate-physics shenanigans are going on - Luna’s stomach is merely bigger on the inside. She digests her food normally like anypony else* would.

*Being an alicorn does bless Luna with an extra-strong digestive tract and metabolism that work quickly and can harmlessly process almost anything as “food”. But the differences between how she and other ponies digest food end there.
