Lithuanian lyrics:

Oi šermukšnio šermukšnio kur tu augai terp balių,
Ei ei ajajaj, kur tu augai terp baliu?

Kur tu augai terp balių, tarp šių žalių samanų,
Ei ei ajajaj, tarp šių žalių samanų?

Oi matuši matuši, kam tu manį auginai,
Ei ei ajajaj, kam tu manį auginai?

Kam tu manį auginai ir ing vaisko užrašei,
Ei ei ajajaj ir ing vaisko užrašei?

Ir ing vaisko užrašei ir tris triūbas nukalai,
Ei ei ajajaj ir tris trubas nukalai?

Pirmą triūbą triūbijo ir kiemėlio išjodams,
Ei ei ajajaj, iš kiemelio išjodams.

Antrą triūbą triūbijo per atšlaimą juodamas,
Ei ei ajajaj, per atšlaimą juodamas.

Trečią triūbą triūbijo, prie vaiskelio pristojęs,
Ei ei ajajaj, prie vasikelio pristojęs.

Man žirgelis sužvingo, visas vaiskas sužiūro,
Ei ei ajajaj, visas vaiskas sužiūro.

Ir sužiūru sužiūru, kariuomenė į mane,
Ei ei ajajaj, kariuomenė į mane.

Ir atein žuvėdų pulks, žuvėdų pulks narsiūjų,
Ei ei ajajaj, žuvėdų pulks narsiūjų.

Kai ant plečiaus sustojum, žuvėdus iškapojum,
Ei ei ajajaj, žuvėdus iškapojum.

Mūsų Katkus labai drūts, tikras buvo karaliūks,
Ei ei ajajaj, tikras buvo karaliūks.

Oh, dear rowan tree, where have you been growing in the midst of the swamps?
Where have you been growing in the midst of the swamps, in the green moss?
Oh, dear mother, what have you raised me up for?
What have you raised me up for and conscripted me to a war?
Conscripted me to a war and have forged me three trumpets?
He trumpeted the first trumpet as he was riding off from the inner yard
He trumpeted the second trumpet as he was riding off from the outer yard
He trumpeted the third trumpet as he was joining the troops
My horse pranced and all the troops looked at me
And all the army had turned to me
And a troop of Swedes has come, a troop of brave ones
When we’ve stood in the field, we’ve knocked all the Swedes out
Our Chodkewicz was very strong, he was a real king

You are right of course, about private armories and training of the hussars. I was just thinking of using this money for buying out more mercenaries or as you pointed out artillery. Still that I’m just a hobbyist historical nerd. But I think we can agree that Hussar saber was the best cavalry saber created. I think it is my favorite weapon for fencing alongside Spanish rapier.

Yeah but they were nobles. They aquired horses and equipement on their own accord.
And we had “Lisowczycy” as light cav.

The only thing Poland had a shortage of was artillery.
In the end it got whittled down by constant wars with more than one enemy at a time.

Believe me - I don’t consider it outdated because of their efficiency on the battlefield - as I said their very like tanks. I considered it outdated because of the cost of equipment, training and powerful horse. I recognize that they were awesome and I’m really proud that we were able to create such unit - but the fact remains that for this price we could get much more versatile combination of infantry and light cavalry that is easier to maintain.

They weren’t outdated.
Sure there were firearms but they reloaded so long that they had to be defended by pikemen and hussars just happened to be equipped to break though pikes (by having hollowed out lances longer than said pikes).
They basically had no counter till firearms became not only common but also quick fireing… and by that time Poland was a shadow of its former self anyway.

Polish Hussars - a bit outdated cavalry concept even in its prime, but it was equivalent of tanks on XVII century battlefield. Love the picture.
