Description

Working on wing animation, it’s the first wing animation I’ve done, there are some errors, but hopefully other perspective angles will work out better, I still have 33 frames to do then fill and a bit of editing. For the most part, I’m satisfied for now, to fix every problem in it I’d have to redo the whole thing, so with each new perspective view will come improvement and perhapses later on I’ll redo all of them, but the time consumption on redoing everything every time would cause me to never finish anything, so I’m going to settle and work harder on the next one.

I have the whole final loop sketched out, this is 15 out of 48 frames required to make the loop, the whole sketch looks like this http://puu.sh/bzrRZ/2fcb981eb5.swf  
as for feather amount, it varies by what type of bird you look at, some have many more than others, typically varying on the size of the bird, considering she’s a horse, I’d say she’s a huge bird, the count on how many show up on down stroke (seeing back of the feathers) though is defiantly more than the front view of them. I think I had something else to mention but I’ve gotten side tracked, but there are some points I do know, like I said, it’s the first one I’ve done so I can understand it may not be evident. Anyways, thanks for all the input, I do appreciate it.

1: feather density is too high, compare what you have now to the feather count on an actual birds wing, also look at how the feather count varies in different sections of the wing, and the shapes of the feathers vary too but not much. so yes, less, wider.
 
2: it’ll make animating all those frames much much easier, less lines to draw, less RSI. It also makes the onion layers clearer and therefore easier to judge movement and keep feather count consistent between frames.
 
3: you should sketch some lines of the flow of the wing before adding all the feathers and details, get a clean feel for the momentum and weight of the wing before fleshing it out, i do a single line, the edge of the wing that has the bone and drives the movement, and then i rough out the shape of the rest of the wing(wings can be split into 3 key sections, it can also keep proportions consistent)

by doing this you can easily map out the movement and figure out how to make it smoothly loop if you wish to do so.
