Not actual socks, it’s how horses legs are, it’s besically a coat marking.

Question, do anybof y’all ever put your OCs in a situation with a canon character? Like not characters that happen to know them or are related to them, just like what if situations ya know?

Considering some of my OCs are Next-Gens of canon characters, the answer for that is yes. But even before I got into the next Gen trend, I did think of how some of my characters would interact with some of the canon characters.
 
For example, my Zawadi (my Zonkey OC) has a bookstore and she’s slightly envious of Twilight. After all, why would ponies buy a book at her store when they could get one for free at the library as well as meet a pony that rescues Equestria on a frequent basis (who is also a princess). Let’s just say that she takes those feelings go away really fast after that incident with Tirek. She felt worried about Twilight’s well being after hearing that news as well as felt guilty about having those petty feelings about her.
 
Speaking of castles and OCs, I have a group of OCs that’s a family that does fixing, building, gardening, and real estate work (I watch HGTV with my family a lot it was bound to happen sooner or later). So this family of ponies do offer to help Twilight with some remodeling in the castle (probably not much but little bits of furniture here and there). They also helped Celestia and Luna remodel their castle (since from the movie onward their throne room and other bits of their castle looks different now).
 
I also brought up my other pony OC by the name of Cherry Cobbler. I made her related to some minor canon characters (basically if that canon character is associated with cherries, I made her related to so like the Apple family, there’s a Cherry family that exists for my fan based stuff). Beyond this, I have her make horseshoes so some ponies go there for her to build or fix theirs. I had a little storyline where she and Fluttershy try to date but they ultimately break things off and think it’s better if they were friends because at the time the both of them were just far too timid to really initiate much in the relationship. After that, I do have her successfully date another canon character, a toy exclusive character named Bumblesweet.

If you are wondering why she has the element of Honesty on her, it’s because Since the real elements got destroyed, the mane six had copies made of them to as a sort of remeberance thing (they are non-functional, but they still keep them around).  
The real Applejack gave Jacklyn her copy of the Element of Honesty as a gift to try and make her feel more accepeted and to help boost her confidence

And yeah like I said, I can understand your reasoning.  
But the artist thought that the makrs looked like scars, and I thought that made sense as a transition, plus I think it also goes well with her backstory.

You’re right. Some of the marks do look like scars. I would have gone with a compromise and given her brown sock markings on the lower parts of her legs while also giving her some scars on her upper legs, thighs, and body.
