They'd have to do some rather extreme mental gymnastics to justify that - historically, the attempts to ban Christmas were all on religious grounds, either by Puritans that thought it was too Catholic, or by conservative Muslims that claimed it's unislamic, or by radical atheists who wanted to stamp out religion entirely.
