Rap was, Crunk was just a subgenre that came and went. And just because an artist has a big selling album doesn't reflect the popularity of the genre itself. For example, this year BTS's album went to number one yet there isn't some sort of k-pop fad right now in the mainstream. Likewise, Madonna had an album this year that also went to number one but there isn't a revival of 80's pop singers because of it. What I'm saying is that a genre can be really popular at a certain time, but yet others can still have a time to shine to get big, like how funk and adult contemporary were popular when disco dominated the music scene alongside rock despite the accusations that it was "dead".

Yeah, and so was Ke$ha, Katy Perry, Lady Gaga, Taylor Swift, Lady Antebellum, Chris Brown, Usher, One Direction, and Justin Bieber.
