Unpopular opinion time (super alpha no pony edition)

If you are trying to get someone to try and support/understand something, then constantly acting like a condescending annoyance about it is the worst possible way to try and get someone to better understand your position.
 
This always seems to be the main way online people try and convince others and it’s honestly kinda sad.

That’s because they don’t see opinions, but “objectively” right and wrong, and don’t care about how they present their opinion, just that they “show people the light” in a “holier than thou” attitude.

No I have not, Just a general trend i have noticed over the years that I felt like calling out

Hating something that has LGBT themes or diversity in it doesn’t automatically make you racist, sexist, homophobic, etc.

Part of me wants to give you a sarcastic response, but I’m not convinced that people don’t apeshit if you point out that a character’s/characters’ canon sexuality doesn’t match the one the person gives them (either for shipping or “diversity”).

I know that that’s a bad habit to do, but there was a point where I was starting to help someone who was all depressed and no matter how many times I’ve tried to help them or give them advice, they would not take it and double down and go back to their usual whining that I wanted to act all condescending to them. Luckily it was just this one guy and everyone else I’ve talked to and helped have been good, but I’m glad I didn’t do that even if I was reaching my breaking point.

Oh most definitely. That argument, however, is often used against people who actually don’t have an issue with LGBT themes and/or diversity.

Or feel that the LGBT stuff is there for shallow reasons (like using them to distract the audience from bad writing).

You mean like when people say ’ This character I want to project onto is X-coded’ which is another way for people to say it’s a stereotype that they’re all for?

Kinda like how a Lesbian couple kissing onscreen in The Rise of Skywalker felt very much like a way for Lucasfilm to deflect criticism against the movie (which was one of the rare instances where this didn’t work).
 
It’s doubly insulting since it was done in a manner that could be easily edited out in other countries.

I actually like scenes like that in principle. Because gay people should be just as “matter of fact” as straight people. Random background characters just doing background character things that no one really pays direct attention to.
 
Not saying that scene in particular is good, but I support making gay scenes that are, in effect, “standard”.

It’s sad really. The most outspoken of these rights can also be the ones that never practice what they preach.

I get the impression that they rather it not become standard, since than them adding it in movies and the like wouldn’t make them “daring” or “progressive.”

As on the topic of showing gay relationships, i feel like there are both times where it’s ok to have it be subtle and in the background, and to have it be blunt and in the open.
 
All mainly comes down to themes and what the person aking the story wants to tell and all that jazz.

Agreed. Disney’s ZOMBIES was intended to be a metaphor for racism, but it sucks, and saying that it sucks doesn’t make me a racist because the film itself wound up being racist.

One of Doug’s December reviews. I remember him saying that he has seen more than a few films trying to be against prestigious, and saying that this one does a meh job at it, and seeing it as overall harmless.
