High Fantasy is probably the most derivative genre in fiction (Tolkien leads the way). I mean a lot of these elements aren't changed because honestly, they don't need to be. The formula of humans in a magical medieval setting with elves, monsters, and dragons has worked in its own particular way for over 50 years somehow.
