It’s really interesting how, unlike the rest of the Warsaw Pact, the Czechs tried to do their own things with regards to small arms - doing the CZ-52 and CZ-82 instead of the standard Tokarev and Makarov pistols, the VZ 58 instead of the AK, UK vz.59 instead of the PKM. I’ve wondered how much of it was pride and confidence in their own ordnance works, and how much of it was wanting to express independence from the Soviets.
