Lapis is basically Raditz to Steven’s Goku.  
Except less of a dick and also less being dead.

though technically wouldn’t lapiz be piccolo to steven’s gohan? they even got prisonment issues

Well, Piccolo’s got different issues than Lapis.  
And she didn’t kidnap Steven to train him in the mountains, fighting against a dinosaur. She was generally nicer and more emotionally unstable.
 
Garnet is badass in every way that no character can fit her.

i meant the old/first piccolo (the one that got imprisoned in a rice cooker). and i guess lapis has a reverse gohan scenario when steven took her mirror form out for fun. that helped her bond with steven, enough to make a sacrifice.
