Statistically long guns aren't the issue. Handguns are.
Doing the right thing is just too far removed from the status quo, so we choose to target long guns which only make up 2% of homocide.
Smaller guns need more regulation, Police know this, they often judge firearms by their length. Even if that means a police visit so they can see you have a sufficiently heavy safe. No children or people with personality disorders should have access to a gun. No body with a serious violent crime.
Anyone who lets a kid take a gun to school should be held accountable. These school shootings are very rare and easy to stop.
We also need real mental health professionals, not this bureaucratic boondogle of old people that believe in spirits.
