I doubt they'll give a shit about the station being small when getting close to even mid-range to the standard Phantom without a Shotgun or Decent Body Armor is a death sentence.

And while the Pistol is pretty good for sidearm, it's usually not wise to take a Phantom head-on with one unless you're really coordinated at dodging projectiles while shooting.

On that subject why the hell do Black Mesa Security Guards in the OG Half Life not pick up the Shotguns or SMG's dropped by slain HECU Soldiers?

Look, the base Pistol is great for Headcrabs, Zombies, and Vorts but it's not ideal for anything bigger that likes to charge at you.
