We have some true anon taggers who are remarkably efficient and proficient. I would not want to lose them or the benefit of the work they do for the site due to one person’s bad behavior.

For the rest, agreed. It would be wonderful to have a way to prevent this from happening.

How do I deactivate my account?

Report yourself for a reason of ‘other’ and let us know you want to be deactivated.

NOTE: If you ask for deactivation you will simply be deactivated. You will be logged out and will be unable to log back in. If you want something more, please let us know in detail what you are asking for instead.

PS to NOTE: If what you really want is just a brief, voluntary break from the site - for example if you need to focus at work or school, or want to just take a mental holiday away from this 365-day-a-year fan-run online MLP convention, you can ask for a temporary ban of whatever duration you’d like. That keeps you logged on, but it basically sets the site in “Read Only” mode for you, so you can still browse - but can’t post or comment or send PMs or things like that. If you’d like that temporary voluntary ban ended prematurely for any reason, just come to Support and let us know you’d like the ban lifted and we will do so.

Why do you need to be signed in to upvote or downvote?

Hi, I wanted to ask if the option to lock a post’s downvotes due to unfair downvotes was still a function, and 1. what qualifies as “unfair downvotes” + 2. how would one get that done for a post or posts?

There’s nothing to “lock” voting on an image. The only thing that can be locked is comments+tag/description editing.
I’m not sure that was ever a feature either….

Ah I see. I heard from somewhere that that was a function but it must’ve been misinformation, sorry about that.

You can report an image for Other and ask that downvotes be reviewed for Rule 4 violations from users who should have tags that offend them hidden, or Rule 6 violations if you think someone has made only-exist-for-multiple-downvote-purposes side accounts or has organized an offsite brigade against an image or something, but even if that does have any effect behind the scenes it, uh, doesn’t usually result in anything obvious.

Please use just Rule #6. Systematic downvoting is an abuse of site functionality.

Rule #4 is more for people whinging on about themes of images.

Should site event threads that have long passed and are now just used for ongoing chatting get moved out of Site and Policy and into Generals or General Discussion?

To me it looks like they’re still being used just as convivial hangouts by friends having fun together. Kind of like image #0 or the pizza thread are handled.

At MiniCon we used to call that “microprogramming”, which is basically people entertaining themselves, which in those threads is not breaking any rules - except maybe off topic, but for those old event threads it seems to not be doing any harm.

If people are breaking rules in there, like 0 or spamming or something like that, then we can look at it. But last time I looked at them they seemed remarkably well behaved.

I’ll subscribe to them, just in case. I mean - I’m still participating in one of them from time to time, but I’ll try to pay more attention to them.

They just mean moving them to a different forum as the threads have long since served their original purpose and anything going on in there now is no longer “site and policy” related.

Could it really? I was under the impression that flashing photosensitivity depends on the flashing taking up a large portion of one’s field of vision.

There’s also an animation of Vinyl Scratch that literally strobes.

Can a wider search on a tag be done to see if it’s happening on multiple images? That way the mods can see if it’s the same group of people just not blacklisting/hiding the tag and instead trying to manipulate the scoring and take action accordingly?

Yes, but it’s by hand so it can take while to do. Please report an image with the tag you’re wondering about for Rule #6, and let us know that you suspect downvoting abuse, and what tag you think is the target.

How don’t they violate this?

What is the reasoning behind this line in the gallery editor?

As I interpret it, galleries with any NSFW need to be marked as such, which doesn’t make sense to me because filters exist.

Even with filters, galleries represent the potential to have unusually high concentrations of themes, fetishes, or graphic content that you normally would not see in a typical search of the site.

And not everyone has filtered everything they might not want to see, because they’ve never seen “that much of it” in one place. Perhaps just browsing the site with the everything filter works fine for them because it’s not an entire page of the one thing they get triggered by.

But with galleries, it’s not just “the random images in this one tag”, it’s a curated gallery of images that someone has hand selected, sometimes highlighting what they consider “the best of the crop” in whatever theme they are focusing on.

The potential for someone accidentally wandering in to a gallery exclusively dedicated to some a subject they might never have otherwise filtered is high.

So even though filters exist, it is a courtesy to others to let them know what they are going to see when they open that gallery up.

Using my own galleries as an example, I am pretty sure people browsing a fun site like this will generally not be prepared for what they’ll see if they open my gallery “Best Pony”.

Sure, it’s pages of happy fun fine to see at work. Then it’s an entire page of ”Best Cockmare”. Even if people are using their filters, gallery is built from an extremely particular view of “Best”. And I wouldn’t be a bit surprised if it were triggering for some users even if they think they are “filtered up”.

For those of us who enjoy stats, can we get a list of most filtered tags please?

Not possible to easily get anything accurate; people have multiple filters that may have the same tags in them, and complex filters use queries instead of tags. Plus lots of people are content with just using one of the defaults, or filter a tag that implies another tag that’s the “real one” they’re actually wanting to filter.
