It seems to me that there just needs to be some kind of threshold for getting this badge. Maybe something like "translate 10\50\200 images". Then it won't matter if a person translates their own work or someone else's, they still contribute to the community.

Edit: Translating your work is also not so easy. Therefore, it would be fair if everything depended on the amount of translated text.
