This has been done for the lulz, and probably is eliciting the type of chuckle the designer was hoping for out of some of users. It certainly is a good, nostalgic parody of what it’s trying to riff on. It’s just a shame there doesn’t seem to be much to it, other than to annoy the user, and that we can’t turn it off. I think that’s a poor choice, and it is a reminder that, while we are a community these sites we gather on are vulnerable to the whims of their creators and moderators. It’s, again, just a shame that we can’t turn this off, especially during the time people are feeling most vulnerable in the world may need to retreat to places like this. Even for 24 hours, it seems to be a very poor choice in execution.
