A nudge and wink is very different from a MA show that will likely be much more risky and have a reward that isn’t worth turning the target audience or their parents off.

A TVMA show would be very difficult to pull off. Can you even make one without sex, graphic violence or harsh language?

Joe pulled off a TV14 pretty easy. The “boy toys” franchises get the bump for violence since “boys like violence” and America is obsessed with it. MLP, to stick to the “what girls like” stereotypes and get a bump in rating would have to focus on more adult themes of relationships and responsibilities. It could be done, but it would require a change in writing and animation style. EqG could do it as well, and EqG was meant for older girls so I think that’s the franchise they’d experiment with.

Actually,back in kindergarten,a couple girls were the ones most into Transformers.

Yet EqG was hit with a TV-Y rating before they bumped up the rating to Y7. Y is not an older girls thing. Y7 or even PG and 14 are.
 
I wouldn’t be surprised if a teen comedy-esque live action EqG series had a TV-PG rating. If that exists.

Even so, it’s really contradictory now that we’re in modern times where people can like things regardless of gender.

The “for girls” thing seems to be an argument I still hear.

You make MLP more mature by focussing more on the interpersonal relationship and “having a job” aspects, and treating them more realistically.
 
Speaking of which, have I gushed about All That Jitters enough?

But yes, the ratings, marketing and even the purpose of the franchise is “meant for young girls” and that’s probably going to always be true. Whatever the market research says young girls like is what we get. EqG was an experiment to get slightly older girls attention and compete with Monster High. We’ll be lucky to get a G2 of that. But if Hasbro is gonna experiment with an older oriented series, it’ll probably be EqG.

And sometimes I don’t understand why it’s still a thing now. Especially when the show was popular before fandom drama made it unpopular over time despite most fans staying.
