I keep forgetting that Rotom was a Gen4 Pokemon.  

 
Though the Pokemon has come a long way since then. Now being able to speak and understand human.

I think most if not all pokemon understand human.
 
They couldn’t battle very well otherwise.

It only speaks human when in the dex, otherwise it’s like other pokemon.

Back in Gen 4, it just felt rather out of place.  
A comical looking ghost Pokemon in a creepypasta mansion.
 
Alolans seem to find more uses for Rotom. Even though you can’t really catch them in the region.

I think the resent Rotom episode(57 of SM, not in English yet) proves that Rotoms can only talk in the dex.  
Ash’s was knocked out of the dex and all “speech” from it when in normal and other forms where it’s thoughts, it never actully spoke when not in the dex.  
And there was a second one meant to be part of the poke-center’s washing machine then ended up in the dex, and it was saying “wash” in human speak only when in the dex and not out of it or in the Wash Rotom form.

Really a bummer that Rotom are not in Alola.

For a long time I think Pokemon like Skarmory were gen 3 pokemon.

Slugma line, Chinchou line, and Skarmory I had mistaken for gen 3 mon.
 
 
Didn’t help that Slugma and Skarmory were gym leader mon in RS but not GS.

Same, although for a while I got Aggron and Tyranitar mixed up as to which Gen they were from.

Tyranitar:Gen 2(It’s in the last cave.)

If an Aggron and Tyranitar meet in the wild it goes down.
